So I am trying to figure out what my son is telling me he wants to be for Halloween and am hoping someone here will be able to help me before I have to sit through every episode of Super Why to find out :-)
When I ask him he says that he wants to be a "Mastertriever" (or at least that is how he prounounces it) and apparently the Mastertriever is responsible for retrieving all of the books. I am not aware of any character named this and find no mention on the internet either. He has his lil' heart set on being this Mastertriever and I would really like to find out what the costume should look like...

When he was talking about books I had assumed it was from Super Why, but Backyardigans it is, thank you!
He is probably thinking of the Masked Retriever, she is a librarian who rounds up overdue books and takes them back to the library, kind of like a Zorro type person.

My first thought was the Masked Retriever from Backyardigans who chases down up the overdue library books. I think your best bet is having him point out the character online or on the show.
does he ever watch backyardigans? there is an episode where uniqua is the masked retriever and she takes books back to the library. that's all i can think of. hope this helps:)

well when they need to "look to a book" it's Princess Pea's job ... she says "Peas and carrots, carrots and peas, book come out, please, please, please" and that is how the book comes out. try the Wikipage to see if it helps any.

Hmmm, we watch a lot of Super Why at our house :) I know there's a new dog on there now, it's Super Why's dog, and my daughter was so excited about this new dog I'm just not sure of his name. Anyway, the dog has the power of the dictionary or something like that. Is that what he's talking about? He wants to be the Masked Retriever from Backyardigans. Basically a Zorro like character who retrieves overdue books for the library. She (Uniqua) wears a black cape, mask and hat and carries a check mark stamp to mark the places she has been to look for books. Good luck!
I'm pretty sure the viewer is what he's talking about, there's mystery letters which sounds similar, but my guess would be he wants to by the main character. Show him a line up and have him point it out. Could've been a special character in one episode mastertrevier sounds like mystery reader...
I don't know the answer to your question, but it sure sounds a lot like our grandson's "master sneaker" who is responsible for sneaking up and catching all the bad guys. Now I'm wondering if he has seen the Masked Retriever character, that several people have mentioned on here, too. That sounds like the one you need to check out for sure.
When my kid asks to be some random crazy thing I have no idea what it is I pull up a website of costumes and say, "ohh! look at all these? How about a pirate?" And she'll totally find something she likes 1000% better than whatever the heck she was thinking of before which is infinitely better for me because then I don't have to play the "what the frak are you talking about" game.
Maybe he is trying to say Master of the Universe................you can google that one. Just a possibility.
