Hi--My son goes to a great martial arts studio (mostly tae kwon do) on North Ave in Oak Park. It is run by Grandmaster Yu and Master Wilson. THey are a fantastic combination. Master Wilson teaches the littler children (she has a background in education and social work, I believe). Grandmaster Yu is straight out of a movie--he is an amazing martial artist--the kids love him and, while he stresses self-discipline, he is very kind. I can't say enough positive things about what a good experience it has been for our son.

Hi D., I would recommend a studio in Darien :
you can copy and paste the URL below:

My son and I did Tae Kwon Do in Colorado before we moved here 2 years ago with the ATA association (American Tae Kwon Do Assoc.) I researched schools in the area and liked this one best. We are not doing TKD any more but I have all the stuff that I was thinking about taking to this school to see if anyone would be interested in it. If you end up doing it, let me know and I'll hang on to the gear if you want to take a look at it. My cell is ###-###-####.
Best regards, V.

The Oriental Arts Training Center (on the north shore someplace - maybe Northbrook?) sends teachers out to various park districts around the suburbs. A great teacher named Christopher is in Oak Park on Wednesdays, and in other suburbs (including Bloomington or Carol Stream, perhaps....not sure which others) on other days of the week. You could probably contact OATC for a complete list of choices.

Try Chicago ATA. Kim Lloyd is the owner/instructor. It's on the northside of Chicago, but she will probably be able to recommend someone in your area.
