The easiest way to explain it is this:

The Grocery Game creates a list of the weekly sales at your grocery store and the coupons that can be used for the items that are on sale. That helps you buy the items at the lowest price possible. You pay for this list..$10 every 2 months for one store, $5 every 2 months for each additional store. BUT, you can "try" the lists for 1 month for only $1 to see if it will work for you.

Here's an example of a deal I got off the list a couple of weeks ago: Daisy sour cream was on sale at albertsons for $1. The Grocery Game list showed that it was on sale, and also that there was a coupon from the Sunday paper that was for $1 off Daisy sour cream. I went to alberstons, bought the sour cream with my coupon: price=free.

Now, not all things are free, but this is just an example of how to use the available coupons in combination with a sale. I usually do get free items every week (this week was floss, band aids & excedrin). I have been shopping this way for 8 weeks and now have my weekly grocery costs under $100 for 4 people.

If you are interested in trying it, you should go to www.thegrocerygame.com and on the left side of the screen, click on "message board". There is a ton of information here about rules, deals, how to shop, etc.

good luck!

Hi Rossel,
I believe there website explains it the best, but I can say if you do it right it does save money. The point of it is to stock up on items that YOU USE when they are at there lowest price. Also to use the copouns when you can double and triple them. The Grocery Game takes all the guess work out of that. The more coupons you have for the weeks items the more you buy and save. We get the double coupon sunday papers. The weekly list tells you what to buy and how many. I started shopping at Tom Thumb when we started and I have seen our bill cut by 60-70%. It tells you when meat and produce are at there best price (while still in season). Take the 4 week trial. It never hurts to try. (you can also get alot of free stuff too.)

I used the one month free trial & I did save a little, but you really have to have a lot of storage space for one & you also have to have a lot of time. I personally did not find it to be that great of a deal. After you buy extra news papers for all the coupons, pay the membership fee AND use all the gas driving around town to all the different stores, it really did not save me that much. AND IT IS VERY TIME CONSUMING!!! You have to go to certain stores on certain days of the week. I shop for all my groceries & toiletries at good-ol Walmart & use coupons (if I have them) & can feed a family of 6 (4 teenagers) on about $130/week which includes all of our toiletries! And I shop when ever I want or need to. The main problem that I had with The Grocery Game was the time you really had to invest to make it worth your wild! I also have some friends who have tried it & quit doing it for the same reasons. But... if you are a stay at home mom & have the time, you may well enjoy it. I do know one person who "plays" & consider's it something like a "hobby". As for myself I am a mom of 4 teenagers, married & working a full time job. I just don't have the time for it. It's free for a month trial though & like one of the other ladies mentioned, you would be better off collecting a few weeks of coupons before starting so that you will have something to start out with.

We are just starting on the Grocery Game, and we are in our second week. I would advise this...cut coupons for a few weeks BEFORE you start your trial. If you have no coupons to begin with, you won't save much that first couple of weeks that your family is hungry. lol

That's my only advice. I wish you the best. I have a friend that's tried it and saves tons of $$$. (She began it while working on debt reduction with Dave Ramsey and LOVES it!!!)

Best wishes!

You print the items off her list that you need/want and use your saved up coupons from your Sunday papers. I tried it on a one month trial and decided it wasn't worth it to me, we just don't have the room to stock up on meats etc. nor do we have room for an additional freezer at this time. They recommend several weeks of coupons. And also tell you to shop for butter, eggs and other basic staples at Sam's or CostCo for the month. You shop Sunday through Tuesday because that is supposed to be when stores have additional sales. I'm sure it's possible to save quite a bit of money but honestly, I just don't have the patience for it nor do we have the space.

I've been doing the grocery game for just over 3 months now. One previous post said "Why pay for something you can do yourself" Well it's just nicer to sit down on Saturday afternoon/evening and get my list off the computer. The lists provide what's on sale and when the coupon came out. With a family of 5 and being constantly on the go I don't have time to figure out when the coupon was put out. It gives me a nice pretty list. There is so much to tell about it, I just dont have enough time to put everything out there. Yes buy multiple double issue papers. That's how you get your coupons.

I can say that I have cut my grocery bill in half now. I am spending less than $75/week now including "needs" and fresh fruits and veggies.

If you like I'd be more than happy to talk with you about it. Send me a PM and I'll be more than happy to call you.

I don't use the game and I don't know that much about it. I don't see paying a service to tell me where sales are when i can look in the Wednesday paper or online and get that info myself.

My TIME is worth so much more to me than just going to different stores, clipping coupons, etc. TIME is money......

I do stock up. I have a huge room sized pantry and I probably have enough paper towel and toilet paper to last a year or more. I go to Costco to do my major stock up. I watch the ads on Wednesdays and plan accordingly. I typically only go to the Tom Thumb less than a mile from me or Market Street about 3 minutes from me.

Good luck.
