Moms- I know the ring of fire is supposed to be when giving birth...but my a$$ is a ring of fire right now! I don't know how to explain how horribly uncomfortable and painful having a BM is right now. I am bleading and when I go it brings tears to my eyes. I SERIOUSLY can't even pass gas without it hurting. I have been using Preperation H suppositories and wipes and I don't think it's doing a thing. What else can I do? This is going on the third day of major pain and I can't exactly stop pooping!! Please please, anyone have any ideas?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks ladies. Went to the doctor today and got a perscription for something stronger. Actually I don't have a hemorrhoid...I have anal fissures! yeah, lucky me! When I got my gallbladder out two weeks ago it reaked havoc on my bowels and I had the "trots" pretty bad. Apparently it stripped the protective coating on my colon/anus and now I have tiny little cuts there. Good lord, that hurts. But, the suppository seems to be helping. Thanks for your ideas!
(I am so glad I don't know any of you...talking about poop, diareah, anus, and fissures...lovely!)

If the Prep H isn't working, it's time to see a doc, esp. since you're bleeding. Until you get the appt, you can try a sitz bath- that will probably bring some relief.
Hope you feel better soon! Don't continue to live in agony because of fear or embarrasment, though.

Three things seem to help me somewhat:

Nupercainal cream has a topical anasthetic in it. Apply it liberally 15-20 minutes before using the bathroom, if time allows. It will numb the sensations a bit.

There are homeopathic suppositories and tablets called Avenoc, made by Boiron, available in some health food sections/stores. The suppositories are more soothing and lubricating for me than Prep H, and I think the tablets actually make a difference. (Homeopathy doesn't work equally well for everyone, but it usually helps about 80% of users.)

Use a stool softener daily until the flareup subsides; it will give your poor little orifice a chance to heal. Taking extra fiber, like Metamucil, may also help. I also seem to get help from Benefiber added to a drink every day.

Also, my daughter JUST gave me a sample packet of a topical cream called Calmoseptine. I've only used it once to soothe the area after a traumatizing movement. I was pretty amazed at how cooling it was. I haven't seen this before, but she says it's available over-the-counter.

Wishing you the best possible outcome. You've got my full empathy.

Make sure you are eating enough fiber and drinking enough water. You could also take a stool softener to make it easier until you heal. You might have anal fissures, which are tiny tears/cuts on your anus, and it makes it very painful to go #2. You should see your doctor for help, depending on the severity of the hemorrhoids they may need to intervene. In the meantime, I've found that just taking one of the witch hazel pads, like Tucks, or even a cotton square soaked in witch hazel, and placing it on the area of the hemorrhoids and just leaving it there, like a compress, can be very soothing.

Ouch, I really sympathize with you--I'm so sorry! Try the Preparation H cream; sometimes the cooling feeling of the cream might help. Definitely talk to your ob/gyn about something else that might help you more, because you've got a serious case and you shouldn't have to suffer that much from hemorrhoids. :-(

I started having HUGE probs with this about 8 months pregnant and it's plagued me off and on since giving birth-2 years later! Prep H, Tucks pads, spread your fiber intake out (if I eat oatmeal in the morning and have coffee...it's horrible!)

I also like Earth Mama bottom spray, it's homeopathic with cucumber oil and other good stuff, very cooling, helps a lot! Sitting on cold rice bags helps too. Shower as often as you can and go panty free as often as you can to keep it aired out.

I had a bad spell of them just a couple weeks before my son was born and I just didn't do anything or go anywhere, I know that sucks, but I reclined and relaxed and ate mild stuff (like brat diet) and it did help.

I feel your pain Mama and expect that if you deliver vaginally, this might come and go for years to come.

Have you heard of a HOT SITZ BATH? This really helps on hemorrhoids. Also, refrain from eating spicy foods, this would aggravate your condition. Eat more fiber, drink more water and try to walk for more to relieve constipation which makes defecating a lot more difficult.

you need a px for something stronger than prep H. get a good sitz bath and use it! make sure you are drinking plenty of water and eating plenty of fiber so your stools won't be too hard. there's a homeopathic help called aeculus hippocampus that works surprisingly well if you keep up with it. get gentle baby wipes (unscented!) and a spritz bottle for clean-up.
i'm so sorry. this happened after my enormous baby #2.
once the initial phases subsides, consider using unrefined coconut oil or pure olive oil to *anoint* your @ss daily and keep the area supple.

I had a boyfriend YEARS ago. (we were together 7 years) His brother had them so bad, he had to have surgery. Not trying to scare you, but, perhaps a Dr's visit would help?

Good Luck and OUCH!!! I hope you feel better!!!

Soak a washcloth in water, fold or roll it up, put it in a ziplock and freeze it. Hold the frozen cloth on the area that hurts. Apply as often as necessary. An ice cube wrapped in cloth works too.
