Does anyone have any preferences between the two? We are looking for a relaxed laid back atmosphere that the kids and I could enjoy. I want to try one of these tonight. Thanks!

What can I do next?

I agree that the Simply Fondue is better for a family where the Melting Pot is for a nice romantic dinner. Just be careful, if you choose the oil to cook in (which I recommend), it can get hot and splatter, so keep the baby furtherest from the pot :-)

Both restaurants are essentially the same as far as food quality. The Melting Pot is a bit more trendy and I feel like I need to dress up more there. Simply Fondue is still very nice and has a great atmosphere, but I see people a little more laid back there. Melting Pot also tends to be more difficult to get into at the last minute. Definitely call ahead if you go there. Simply Fondue, on the other hand has always had openings anytime we wanted to go even last minute I very rarely see children there, especially young ones. Neither are places that really cater to kids. I did see a toddler there last week, but personally I would never take a child under 10 or so to either. Of course, I am sure they wouldn't turn you away. Good luck. I love fondue :)

DEFINITELY Simply Fondue. The food is awesome and it is a better value (more for your money) than the Melting Pot. My hubby and I moved to the Houston area in February and we were just saying how much we miss that restaurant. They have a special for 2 people that is the cheese, meat and dessert fondue with a bottle of wine for around the same price as you could probably just get cheese and meat at Melting Pot. And, as I said, the food is awesome. We always went to the one in Arlington (I think there might be more locations), but I'm sure they are all really good. Enjoy!

Is there a Simply Fondue in Houston? I didn't make reservations at the Melting pot and I was going to take my kid's. It was about 4:00 on a Wednesday. We went in and the hostess asked us how many and I stated 3, she went out into the dinning area and came back and handed me a coupon for $10.00 off the next visit and stated that she couldn't seat us. What the? I was sooooo embarrased! There were about 5 hostess' and door greaters just staring at me! It made me feel trashy! Which we look far from that. They never gave me a good explanation, I felt totally discriminated against, for the first time in my life!

I vote for Simply Fondue and I would call ahead for reservations. We went on a weekend night and had to sit in the bar with the other non-reservation making people. It wasn't bad but it wasn't as enjoyable either.
