The Movie "Mama". How Scary Is It?

I HATE horror scary movies, but I agreed to watch one once a year with my husband at Halloween (I think it was in my wedding vows). This year he picked Mama and I'm really really worried. Is it as bad as the commercials made it out to be?

For reference, slasher flicks are cheesy to me, but horror movies like Silent Hill or Insidious really freak me out. I sleep with all the lights on in the house for a week with a kitchen knife and Bible under my pillow!

If you don't think I can handle Mama, can you anyone recommend something better? Please? :)

What can I do next?

Have you seen any of the funny zombie movies like Shaun of the Dead or Zombieland? I do not like horror movies but these are really good. And I agree with Christie Lee, maybe find a really awful B horror flick, there are TONS of those out there.

It's like Insidious in a way. A ghost or spirit that wants to hang around. Lots of creepy parts.

There was a sad/sweet part that made me cry.

If those types of movies aren't your thing, perhaps watch a silly classic, like Killer Klowns from Outer Space. That's always good for a laugh.

Mama freaked me out a little... Paranormal/haunting movies tend to freak me out while I laugh at slasher/creature ones. BUT Mama does have a definite ending... So you aren't left hanging at the end thinking that the spook can still come get you (even though you are an adult and you know better...lol. Doesn't keep me from trying to turn off the light from under my covers...)

We just watched it this past weekend. It was ok. I guess I approach it from a critical standpoint instead of a scary movie standpoint. I didn't find it all that scary- although there were some "Boo!" moments. Mama is your obligatory swooshie angry ghost. The cinematography in some parts was well done. It was interesting though and I didn't feel like I wasted 1 1/2 hours. It's pretty predictable until the very end, which has a twist.
My husband and I talked about it some the next day. Basically holes in the story and what could have been done to make it far scarier. :)

I thought it was scary, but I scare easy :) There were a lot of parts that were like BOO! I really hated the ending and was upset for awhile! I get emotional at movies though :)

Why don't you go to the movies with a couple who are in the same boat - then split up and see two different movies and go out to dinner?

I agree with Talkstotrees on the funny ones. I have not seen nor heard of this MAMA movie - but I am not always one for the scary film.
