The Movie Rio

Anyone else see it? I love it. I have seen is now 8 times in the past 10 days. My 3.5 yr old loves it. I searched online today for an answer to this question, but didn't find an answer. Perhaps you ladies have insight. In the movie, 4 characters look almost exactly the same - overweight males with short brown hair, somewhat large noses. I am sure it's not a coincidence. I know they're not the same character.
- one is a guard in the bird sanctuary
- one is one of the thieves (the dumb guy Tipa is his name)
- one is a tourist who gets his watch stolen by a monkey
- one is the guard at Carnival

Anyone know WHY they all look the same if they are NOT the same character? Is it some sort of Brazilian joke or something?

Thanks. It's been driving me nuts to know why .... and I couldn't find the answer online.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

@Nicole : if only I had a smartphone .... my phone doesn't even take pictures. and to text, I just use the 10 digits to make words. One day I'll get a nicer phone. But for now, this one gets the job done.

I think it is poking fun at the average tourist. A bit older balding man with a pudgy belly.

It's animation laziness, where they make one character and then do minimal changes to create the image into multiple characters. A way to stay under budget, reuse graphics... Watch Bee Movie, it's one of the most obvious ones out there,a middle aged white male also with brown hair. He is recycled into almost every scene with people.

I watched a documentary (lol. they actually made a documentary on it...) about the computer-generated characters on shows. individual characters are actually pretty expensive to make, (when you consider the man-hours it takes to program every little thing, and make sure that they move right, don't have any glitches, etc. it makes sense.) so to cut the budget they will make several characters with the same 'base' and tweak them so they are a little different.

Also... Gamma G's answer may be the reason they decided to use this particular character's base on so many characters. ;)

nope they are probably just recycling the character to save money. I noticed it too... we watched it like 100 times I think!!!! The weird thing is my 4 year old noticed that as well and I was like "oh well " haha
