I'm not into it myself. I just wonder why it becomes such a spectacle over here in the states. It's kinda soap opera-ish I suppose.

Yes, especially because I can remember watching Prince Charles and Lady Di marry. It's amazing to see it come full circle.
I'm also interested from an historical standpoint. It's an interesting development, imho, for William to marry a commoner and for there to be so little public debate about it.
I wish them all the best.

In a world gone mad, when I see the the first born son of Diana, Princess of Whales, blossom into a man, (A MAN WHO WILL) be King. I do want to see this wedding, because I feel they WILL have a real and long lasting relationship.
It is sad that Diana is not hear to see her handsome wed to a lovely lady, that will carry one her work.
Blessings......

Doesn't *every* girl grow up wanting to be a princess??? And here's a real life young woman about to become one!
I think it's a little bit of whimsy....plus, for the commonwealth countries it IS a big deal because one day these two are going to be King and Queen.

When I was 17 I stayed up all night and watched Di and Charles get married. I think I was into it because it was just amazing to watch a regular girl get turned into an actual princess - and I was a tomboy who could care less about those things! But still, the thought of a literal prince charming sweeping me off my feet. . . what girl wouldn't be mesmerized by that? (Prince Charming didn't turn out to be such a prince after all, but who knew?). Now, I am interested in it for some of the same reasons but more to watch the show the Brits put on. . . fun stuff! Best wishes to Kate and William. . . . somehow, I think they will do much better than Di and Charles.

It's a part of history. It doesn't happen often. I enjoy all the hoopla, glitz, and glamour. It takes me back to my wedding, which of course was nothing like the royal wedding, but it was a time of love, happiness, and hope. I would much rather watch a wedding than a crime show or the news.

I admit, I'm eating it up. Not sure why. I think it's partly because I'm always interested in kids who grew up with divorced parents and turned out well. I think William is a really good guy. He seems to respect Kate, he works hard and he serves others. He doesn't seem to take advantage of his privileges, but gives back. I also think it's great to have some happy news these days. And I think marriage needs a shot in the arm. Oh yes, and I'm half English! ( :

Yes. I got up at 5 am to watch Charles and Diana's wedding on TV and I'll be doing the same for William and Catherine (as she will be called now).
Yes, it is history and it's a real live soap opera that can be traced back in one fashion or another to 1066 or earlier.
Sorry but All My Children, Days or Our Lives, or As the World Turns are just not on the same scale.
Love them or hate them but they are as safe to discuss as traffic or weather.
I think a lot of Americans love hearing British accents (and there are so many). I'm a big fan of many shows from the BBC (Dr Who, James Bond 007, Monty Python, Fawlty Towers, Wallace and Grommit, etc). Who hasn't read Harry Potter or seen the movies?
Americans like following what is going on with the Royals as much as they like following what is going on with the Kennedy's, Rockefeller's and Donald Trump.
They've got wealth (clothes, jewels, castles/estates, cars, polo ponies, yachts, servants, etc), power in their circles, intrigue, a little scandal every now and then - you couldn't write a better reality TV program and that's entertainment.

It is History.
It is Royalty, which we do not have here, except for the few Queens I know.
And I think it is romantic.
Of course I also do special events for a living and I am sure I a going to hear.. "I liked the flowers in the church during the royal wedding, but I have tiny budget, what can you do to make it look like that.. ..."
We got married the same year Diana and Charles were married and one of my best friends spent the weekend down here so we could watch together. Mimosas and all!

I was 3 when Princess Diana and Charles got married. But I still remember watching it! I love English history, royalty, etc. But I also love Irish and Scottish history. It's just so much older than anything we have in America (I do love Americans Wild West history, too!) I guess I just adore history of all kinds. And we all need a little romance in our lives :). I don't think that it's them specifically, but I just like watching weddings to see how things are done, what type of dress, etc. I can't answer as to why people would show it to us. Wouldn't think that a lot of Americans would care, unless it's because we have a lot of Brits over here.

I am living here in London for a few years and was super excited to find out that we would be living here when a royal wedding took place. The city is insanely excited and any of the born and raised Brits have a huge amount of pride and sincerity about it. The schools are closed Friday and Monday as national holidays and my kids school is having a royal tea party on Thursday afternoon! Even though I am only 25 minutes from the festivities I will not be heading into the city that day but rather sitting on my couch taking it all in.
I will tell you this... When I watch a US program or look online at US websites the amount of coverage that the wedding is given and the amount of drama that is written about it is overwhelming. Here there is a countdown but it is tasteful and respectful. Makes it a bit easier to jump on board! Cheers!

No. I am not into it at all. I don't see the big hype really. Maybe because I don't see the reason for spending enormous amounts of money on frivolous things when most of that can go to the hungry and to help disaster victims etc. And I'm not interested in seeing the very fast production of the movie about how the prince met his fiancee.

I'm a little excited, but not completely swept up, as it's not my royal family. My brother, otoh, will be in London for the wedding and IS completely swept up (he lives in the UK/has residency, and has for some time).
I have a great deal of respect for the British Royal Family. Maybe because our ties to England (and the commonwealth; CA, AU, etc.) are so much closer than other countries in the world... maybe for something as simple as no language barrier... maybe because I have friends, family, & colleagues in the UK (and have spent some time there, and plan on spending quite a bit more).
I don't have television, however (hulu, netflix, etc but no 'turn on the tv and stations are playing'), nor paper service... so I have to deliberately search for my news, whether it's wedding related or not.

Well, because I am Welsh, and lived in Wales for 32 years of my life, I am into it. But not a LOT into it. I will probably watch it, because William is the Prince of Wales.
They show it over here, probably because so many of you have British ancestry, and you don't have royalty so that's a novelty.
Most Brits don't want to be princesses any more, can you imagine? the pap, and the stress of being watched all the time?

I will have my nearly 3 year old grand daughter that day so I want to make a little fuss about it for her. Having just returned from Disneyland and seeing the princesses, and realizing she believes they are real, makes it more fun. I plan to put her in one of her princess costumes, and she will wear one of her many tiaras and bead necklaces. (she does this most everyday anyway) Someone else said they will do a tea party and I think we might also. What fun it might be to let her watch and know there is a princess and prince and take pictures for her baby book to remember rest of her life. I just hope Cathrine chose a "big" dress! It will make it more fun.. Other than that, it's not a huge thing to me personally but it is part of history and interesting to hear the details and remember back to Di and Charles wedding, and the "Where were you?" when she died. Some moments in our lives just stick with us and maybe for some, this will be one of those moments.

I've not been caught up in following the wedding preparations, but do plan to pay some attention to the wedding itself. I remember as a child being so engrossed in the wedding of then Princess Elizabeth and Prince Phillip. I want to share some of that with my two granddaughters, who...as most young girls these days, love to dress up as princesses. I think my three year old grandson, who calls his two cousins "the queen" and "the princess" will also enjoy viewing the wedding. I don't plan to make it such a big issue that the human-ness of the royal family is forgotten and they become some sort of fairytale beings to the kids, but it's an opportunity for me to share something that was special of my childhood with them too. Imagine pointing out the Queen of England, an old lady, to them and explaining that when I was a child, she was being married as a beautiful princess such as they are seeing in this wedding. And, that the young man being married is the grandson of that Queen and her Prince.

I am interested in it but it is as a young girl who always wanted to be a princess... I want to see the gown, but I want to see everyone's gown (feel free to send pics of yours!) ... I am interested in the tiara (LOVE THEM!!) ... but overall I am not INTO it just interested in it. I think all of the hype is because this is DIANA's son, she has her ring, and she is just plain beautiful and mysterious and most people are suckers for mystery type people. So that is my theory on the hype.

I am TOTALLY and unnaturally interested in it!
I remember being a little girl and watching Princess Diana's wedding. It was like the Brit's version of a Disney movie. We've also seen the boys grow up into men and they're adorable. I also watched when Diana was killed.
I think Will is an absolute gem. I mean, sure, he is heir to the throne but he seems like a humble, modest, responsible, giving young man who is following in his mother's footsteps. How many other celebrities have done as much as he has? Miley Cyrus? Paris Hilton? Lindsay Lohan? The annoying Kardashians? Yeah right...
I don't watch much tv and definitely not reality tv, so this is about the only indulgence on tv that I have. I just wish it wasn't at such a goofy time!

When I first heard of the impending nuptials, I was briefly intrigued. Wondered what kind of spectacle it would be, what she would wear. I remembered watching Princess Di getting married, and getting swept up in the fantasy of it all (I was 7, maybe 8 years old!). But now? I am so sick of hearing about it. I am tired of all the speculations and predictions. I am tired of the news droning on about it. I am tired of the count downs. I just can't wait for it to be over so the media can obsess on another topic for a while.

No...boring! It's just another way (like sporting events) to distract people from important issues. Perhaps it's a welcome distraction to all the bad news to some. I think it's really disgusting to show off the wealth and oppulence of the wedding when so many people are suffering. It should be a private affair that we don't need to know the details of. People should focus on more important issues that will affect them directly! Just my opinion, and everyone is entitled to their own!

I think part of the draw for this is that we have all grown up in a Disney world. Most of us have watched Cinderella, Snow White, etc... find their Prince Charming and live happily ever after, and who doesn't long for that true love fairly tale. When we have an opportunity to witness a real life royal wedding, how can we not get swept up in the romance of it all.

Some talk about the waste of tax payer money. It is no more so than our own government wasting money flying Mr. O. and his wife all over the place on date nights and vacations. We are told to tighten our belts and pay our taxes so our own "royal" family can live it up on our dime.
