Does your son like sports? See if your city has any sports/recreation programs for little ones. Is there a community pool? Is there a children's reading program at your nearest library? Is there a church nearby with activities for children?

You're asking this question at the right time, because in many locations the summer programs are just being publicized. Google on activities for children available in your city and see what you come up with.

At home, what would your son do with a large pad of paper and some crayons, or some clay (or even some mud)? Does he like to build things? Does he have some sturdy blocks?

Just think back on what YOU liked to do for fun at that age!
When I was 5 I loved playing outside, riding my bike and big wheel, picking flowers, playing in the sand, drawing/coloring/play doh and playing with other kids. We had a park across the street with a kiddie pool and I REALLY liked that in the summer.
I don't remember a single adult ever playing with me. It was all about friends, friends, friends :)

How about swimming? It got a little bit warm outside and now I can't get my kids out of the pool! They stay in until their fingers look like prunes.

Would he like to join a team (t-ball, soccer, etc)? Maybe a team aspect would liven things up for him!
