My 2 yo has been throwing up all night. She has no other symptoms, and seems to feel fine until just before she gets sick. Have any of you ever experienced this? Do you have a clue what could be wrong with her? Is there anything I can do to help her?

What can I do next?

Hi Tiffani,

Keep her on a bland diet and only clear liquids, no juices or dairy. If she throws up again, only give her a few ounces of a liquid at a time, not a whole glass or sippy cup full. Her tummy will need time to settle down. If she consumes a whole of liquids right after throwing up, she'll throw up again quaranteed. If she gets hungry, give her oatmeal, rice, dry toast or bread, plain pasta, - no fruits except bananas are okay... If she starts having diahrrea, give her some yogurt with the live cultutes in it. Dannon Activia is great for this.

Good luck. I've had my shares of the stomach viruses this year with my 2 year old too. I hope she feels better soon!!

Wow! my son just started the same thing. He is 8months old, and has no other symptoms. Ive been loading him up on pedialyte. Unless he develops other symptoms, Im just going to watch him closely. There isnt much that the doctor can do. They say to keep him hydrated. I knew that. Call your pedi just to make sure.

I agree with the other moms that it sounds like a virus. Unfortunately there is nothing to do but let it run it's course. Clear fluids and bland food when she is keeping down the fluids and starts asking for food.

My two year old had an intestinal virus last week (vomiting and diarrhea). Then my six year old complained of a sore throat. After a trip to the doctor to rule out strep, I had two boys at home "sick". You never would have known they were sick the way they were running around the house. Needless to say the next day I felt nauseous all day and wanted to stay in bed. Kids just seem to handle illness better than us "old people".

Good luck and I hope she feels better soon.

My 2 1/2 went thru that a few months ago. The Dr. won't be able to do anything unless she is dehydrated. My son hated the Pedialyte drink, but thought the popsicle version was a treat. He also seemed to tolerate that better than just sipping the liquid. Be warned, if it is a stomach bug, she might start with diarrhea in a day or two. My doctor said that it is normal to last up to 10 days. If she does get that next, let her eat tons of YoBaby yogurt (frozen like a popsicle or normal) because it has a lot of acidopholus (sp????) Best of luck!

all my 3 kiddos have soooo been there! No other symptoms...only throwing up for about 24 hrs on and off, of course. It's usually a stomach virus...only time will help!! crackers (saltines), ice chips, and sliced apples always help too! The BEST thing is to give them rice water! May sound funny, but this is the BEST remedy when throwing up like this! My uncle who is a pediatrician and also the health director of San Antonio ALWAYS recommends this to his patients as well. It's an OLD spanish/mexican remedy and it truly is the only thing that helps!!!! If you want to know how to make the rice water just send me a message...it's super easy! ok...sorry for my long note!!
Hope that helps!

It sounds like a stomach virus. My daughter gets them quite frequently. Sadly there really isn't much you can do. The doctor always says to wait 15 minutes after throwing up then offer 1 TBSP of water. Wait another 15 minutes and offer 2 TBSP of water (as long as she has not thrown up in that time. Continue to offer double the previous amount every 15 minutes for an hour. Then you can start clear liquads like pedialyte or gatorade. Usually my daughter throws up pretty continuous for about 5-6 hours and then is perfectly fine. I hope your little one feels better soon. I know how horrible it is to watch your baby feel so bad and not be able to do anything.

I don't have a toddler, I have a 13 yr old girl BUT.....my daughter was sent home from school last Thursday with feeling yucky in the stomach. She felt pretty crappy a couple of days and has had no other symptoms.

Per the school nurse, there is a virus going around that lasts up to 2 weeks. It comes and goes, sometimes light sometimes harder, sometimes throwing up and sometimes not. I don't know if that helps you or not.

Another thing, during allergy season, my daughter and myself get sick stomach when we go to bed or early in the morning due to sinus drainage. That might be a clue as well.

I hope everything clears up soon and maybe this helped somewhat.
