I have thyroid disease,or whatever most people call it. Anyway I had my first two kids and lost my baby weight and with my son back in June 2009, I didn't lose my baby weight. I was feeling tired, depression and so on. I had went to a doctor and told them my mom and her sister both have this disease. So they drew my blood and when the results came back it show I have under active thyroid. So he put me on a 100mg Levothyroxin tablet(which is a gentic brand for Synthroid) I take once a day. I did some research on this disease but I'm still learning more everyday. I had to do hard research on how many calories I should be eating so I can lose this extra weight off. I found out exactly how many calories I should be eating a day and December of 2010,I started my diet and been on it till this day and lost all my extra baby weight off plus 5 extra pounds. (Yay, Me) :)

I was wondering also if people with this disease can get a tattoo? Or piercings? And the out come of it done?
And any of yall with this disease can please send me any more info. Thanks.

UPDATED: I didn't know if tattoos or piercing had anything to do with messing up your thyroid even more or not. Thanks yall. :)

What can I do next?

I don't see why you couldn't get a tattoo or a piercing with a thyroid condition. My son has hypothyroidism and so does my mom. She is not tatted or pierced, but I guess she does have her ears pierced and as far as I know she's never had a problem w/them. My son does not have any tats or piercings (he's only 6!) but he does have a feeding tube surgically placed in his tummy, so in a sense his stomach is pierced! :-)

Thyroid conditions are surprisingly common. My son is on the same med as you only he only takes 25 mcg. My parent's dog also has hypothyroidism!! haha The good news is that a person can live w/out a thyroid at all (in the case of thyroid cancer)!!! So as long as you keep up on your meds I think you are safe!!

Good luck! :-)

I have hashimoto's disease. I am on Levothyroxin 88 and I have 2 tats and 3 holes in each ear. I am fine. I really don't understand what tats and piercings have to do with it. As long as you take your meds everyday and get your TSH levels checked every 6 months you will be fine. I was diagnosed with it 13 years ago and I have not changed the dosage in 13 years. When I first learned that I had it I was very upset cause I never heard of it. I did all my research online and talked to the dr's. I was a absolute reck when I learned that I may not be able to have children. I spoke to my OBGYN about it and he told me that as long as they keep it under control I wouldn't have any problems. I have a beautiful 3 yr old and I am currently 33 weeks pregnant. I did have a miscarriage last year but they told me that my thyroid was not the cause. They are currently testing my TSH levels every 3 months because of the pregnancy. But nothing has changed. When I was pregnant with my daughter it acually brought my levels down.
Not really sure where to tell you to go to look for information. I just looked up everything that I could at the time. I live a very normal life. Some days I have so much energy that I don't know what to do with it and other days I am tired. I do feel the heat and the cold alot more then normal but you get used to that. Other then that do what you want. If you want a tat then by all means go get one. Best of luck!

I have thyroid disease too but did not know this when I got my ears pierced (age 18) and several tatoos (at age 24 and 30). How would getting your body altered affect your thryoid levels? The only way it has affected me was that in the initial workup I had the beginnings of a goiter, and then I'm pretty sure that's why it was so difficult for me to get pregnant. Maybe I need to do more research...

I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism when my youngest was 4 months old. I take 75mcg of Levothyroxine every morning before I eat and have my labs checked once a year. No biggie. There should not be any issue with tats or piercings. They only warning my doc gave me was to come talk to him when we plan on trying for another baby due to the fact that he will have to monitor my labs more closely and increase my medicine. I also deal with the tired factor and the heat and cold intolerance. But I do feel so much better now than I did before I began medication.
All the best!!!
