I use the off family care bug spray on my kids and it has 7 % deet. One of my kids gets eaten by mosquitos and swells so I want the deet on her. I dont know if it helps with ticks but if it does I would rather the deet then lime disease.
There are many ticks in my area, even from just being in yard (not woods). I am confused about whether you can or cannot use DEET on kids and is there a safe lawn treament for ticks? thx

There is a garlic and Neem oil spray that is not harmful to children and repels ticks. Some companies offer it as lawn care, or you can find it on the web. Also, tick off is a much more natural bug spray that repels ticks on people. Then, nightly tick checks and if you are bitten putting essential oils of either oregano or thyme into and around the bite as quickly as possible.
No you cannot use Deet. As far as I know it was made against the law to use it in the public areas, the air your neighbors breathe, back in the 60's or 70's. Try some Sevin dust or some other organic material. Ask at the feed store or the local nursery/tree/gardening business.
normally I do not ever use deet. I have always used avon brand. But the other day my neighbor told me that she read in the paper that the ticks around here are starting to carry a new disease which is similar to mad cow disease. So, because of that, I will be using it this year because I would rather put a little deet on them then have them get some horrible disease.
Also my mom was bitten by a tick once and she got rocky mountain spotted fever. She almost died in the hospital from it. The nurse even told me to say good bye because she wont make it through the night.
I normally hate harsh chemicals, but this time I will be using it
