Hi moms im 31 weeks prego with baby #2 and i am swelling so bad. My toes, ankles, feet, and hands and fingers are so swolen. I can't wear my wedding ring anymore because the jewelry store wont size it up anymore and i wasn't willing to lose a finger. I can't wear tennis shoes anymore only really lose sandals and i have high arches in my feet so having to wear such flat shoes are hurting my feet even more. I try to walk around during the day and take equal amounts of resting time to put my feet up, but it isn't helping. I have been checked out by the doctor and she says everything is normal, but this is so bad and so painful, i never swelled up like this with my first. Help moms any tips or ideas to prevent any further swelling or getting some of the swelling to go away would be great. Thanks in advance.

R., I totally feel your pain and I mean that literally! I was swollen from about 12 weeeks prego til even NOW 2.5 years later! I still can not fit into regular shoes! I have been put on a diuretic to help me since and I drink lots of iced tea since it is also a diuretic (the caffiene in it is). The pregnancy caused damage to my kidneys (just found out) so make sure you are watching this closeley along with your blood pressure!

While I was prego the Dr suggested that I up my water intake.... I was drinking about 12-16 8oz glasses or more a day with lemon or oranges in it to help flush me- you will feel like you never leave the bathroom though. Also, elevate your feet and legs as much as possible. If possible try wrapping your legs in ace bandages to help push the water up and out- not sure if your dr would prescribe those special stockings for you but worth asking for- they do work if you wear them! Definately limit your salt intake.... do not add it to anything! Watch the amount of sodium in your drinks also as well as in canned and prepackaged foods and veggies- it is amazing where it is hiding :)

If you notice that you are short of breath, vision changes, bruising easily or anything else that is abnormal for you definately call your dr immediately!

I hope you find some relief soon! Many blessings to you and yours and to a happy healthy delivery!

I had terrible swelling for the last 2 months of my first pregnancy. There was NOTHING I could do to make it better.

Avoid sodium, fried foods, etc.

I had my hubby rub my feet every night. After a good foot massage, the swelling and pain would go down. That was the only thing that helped.

See a chiropractor. Mine deals with pregnant women and kids and could give you a ton of advice to help reduce swelling-diet, physical therapy, and other natural things. Plus the adjusments will help relieve pain and discomfort while pregnant. I couldn't of gotten thru the pregnancy without Dr. Landgrebe. I found them online at www.landgrebechiro.com they are awesome and accepted my insurance (united)

Watermelon, avocado, asparagus and grapefruit are all natural diuretics. Stay away from salty and sugary foods ... they will only increase swelling. I know, easier said than done. Good luck and feel better!
