Hi ladies-

Need your input, would love to hear from anyone who has had the same issues.

I was born with a septate hymen-a vertical strip of flesh running across the top of the vaginal opening. Never caused any problems during my monthly cycle/with tampons or during intercourse. For either instance I just sort of moved it out of the way and went about my business. It was 'broken' during sex 9 years ago, bled a bit, healed and has been there ever since. None of my partners have ever noticed it or mentioned it and it hasn't caused me any pain or health issues. It's just sort of there, and it's not cute. I am not so self concious about it that it causes me anxiety or anything, I've obviously lived with it for 9 years this way and I've had a very enjoyable sex life, but every so often I look around down there and am not a fan of what I see.

My question is this, has anyone else had a septate hymen? Did it break during intercourse? Did you have it removed? Did you have it removed after it broke? Would love your input.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

So maybe I have a serious case of the Mondays but I really don't think the sarcastic responses are funny. I know that if I wanted to have something done about this I would need to talk to my Gyno-I didn't expect anyone on Mamapedia to come over on their lunch break and take care of things for me. I was, however, looking to hear from other women who had had the same type of condition and what their input was. Did they leave it be? Did they have cosmetic surgery? Did it cause them any issues after it was broken? Did it ever break? Like I said, it obviously hasn't bothered me that much if I haven't done anything about it in 9 years BUT it is something I wonder about and I'd like to do some amateur research before I go meet with a doctor.

I'm sorry - never had this problem. And don't know anyone that has said anything about it.

I don't think the vagina is "pretty" - so I don't know how to help you. It broke once and self-repaired. If it is causing you problems, I would have it surgically removed. If not. Leave it alone.

Mine broke because of a tampon, never been a problem since. If you can notice it and it is something you would like to do something about talk to your OBGYN. They may be able to do something about it. I know they can reattach them and do other things down there according to a patient's desire, so it may be an option.

I don't think anything about vaginas is cute, so I wouldn't worry about the aesthetic part of it. Anyone gandering at a vagina isn't doing it because they think it's lovely, most likely.

No input other than that.

I think all vagina are cute, until the legs are spread, then they are pretty dang goofy looking. Every last one. I was always pretty happy that unlike a boy, I was able to hide my genitalia inside my body, much like a bird does, until one day as a teenager I decided to take a good look at myself and squatted over a mirror.

Never again.

Okay... this is going to sound weird, but there are these web sites where you can send them a picture of your vagina and they'll turn it into a really pretty little ceramic or glass colored necklace. I've heard of women who need a new outlook on their vajay's getting these necklaces and feeling empowered by them. The necklaces often look like flower/iris pendants.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAnyway. Yeah. I would talk to your OB/GYN and ask about plastic surgery if it's something you feel warrants a repair.
