Our church group is sending a group of teenagers on a mission trip in march. We are asking for prayer "warriors" within our church to pray for these kids daily. We are trying to come up with a creative idea for a reminder bracelet with the child's name on it. There is a large group so, we need something that's fairly quick to make and not too expensive. We thought of beads but I want to do something out side the box! Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

What can I do next?

Hi T.,

This one may sound crazy as you have been given so many great ideas but how about hospital style bracelets? They come in many colors and the teens could decorate their own and then once applied you have that constant reminder. Also, they are water proof!

Hope this helps!!!

What about beads and then someone can make clay beads and put their name in the bead, that way it's more personalized????
Or maybe get a silk screened ribbon with their names on it?
Or applique their names on a band of cloth and use it as a bracelet.

I really liked the silk screen ribbon with the name silk screened or paited by the child they are praying for. The teen that is being prayed for can choose thier own ribbon adding a special touch to it that may give the warrior added connection with the teen.

You could make a military braid... Just add in lettered beads for the name.

This link is a video showing how to make one.... You could use a heavier colored chord instead of ribbons to make it a bracelet... experiment a bit to figure out when to loop in the beads. lol.

Hi T.-

What a nice idea!

How about a macrame bracelet...? Mix up the colours of the 'string' (jute, cotton yarn) and beads...and have the 'missionaries' either MAKE them...or at least 'present' them to their respective prayer warrior.

Macrame is making a come back...and very easy to do (google and loads of videos)...and without a name, would be a nice item to wear after for some time to come.

Best luck!

What about bent-wire names in cursive. You could add small beads to decorate. For an example go to www.etsy.com and type in "wire name" in the search box.

All the kids know how to make "friendship" bracelets - great idea. If you want a REALLY inexpensive - buy very small adhesive dots and have the prayer warriors place one on their watch face. Everytime they look at their watch, they can pray for the child!!!!

My daughter(14 yrs old) has been making some cool things( including bracelets with names on them) out of duck tape. There are all kinds of cool florescent colors , zebra, camo & cheetah prints. You take a strip & fold into a bracelet so that it can be slipped on & off of their wrist then you cut out block or bubble letters of another color & put it on the outside of bracelet. Very easy & fun! I will be praying for your group!

I LIKE beads... there's a reason why rosaries are usually made of beads (as well as buddhist prayer beads)... they're comforting to roll between your fingers, don't catch on clothes, and are good for those who have a thing about counting. In this case, if each bead represented a child, going bead by bead would make sure every child was prayed for.

I would VERY much recommend round smooth beads, with little silver or golden spacers between each. Ideally with the first letter of each child who is going on mission written on them. ((One can buy special ceramic or metal or stone paint pens at art stores so any ceramic (or glass... technically the ceramic pen is one that adheres to glass, since that's what glazing is) or metal, or stone bead can have the child's letter calligraphic onto it.))

If I were making them I would look for mikimoto pearl sized beads, and ideally, use a paint that's a light color against a darker background... to avoid the alphabet bead look. <grin> But then again, alphabet beads would work in a pinch.

OR I'd snag sandalwood beads and use the little burning tool to calligraphy each child's initial on the beads.

LOVELY & caring idea your churchmembers are doing, btw.
