Don't answer any emails. Put a phone number in there and list that you will not respond to emails, only phone calls. I also said that if the ad was still there then I still had it. That stopped a lot of people that asked if I still had the item. If they asked, I knew they didn't read the ad and were just sending bulk replies. The honest people that would usually shoot an email started calling and I got rid of most of my stuff. I don't know of any other sites that works as well as craigslist......sorry I couldn't help more.

I can't speak for your area, but where I live (Huntsville, AL) we have a Yahoo Group called "Huntsville Trader." It's kinda like the "Freecycle" groups, but you buy/sell/trade stuff. Search Yahoo Groups for a similar group in your area!

If it's in decent shape and current style, consider selling to a consignment store. If it's not that great, I would just donate it and take the tax write off. We always donate our furniture, even if it's really nice (just not suiting current needs), just to be done with it.

I've found with Craigslist that only 50% bother to show. I never guarantee anyone that an item will be here ... if they're first to show and pay, it's theirs.

I certainly agree ! I have been looking for a car, and all the ones that answer me back are ones that want to " ship the car to you" and want your personal info. Makes me sick !

www.bookoo.com

is a website for garage sales - they are local as well as international. Similar to craigslist but because you have to have a membership to list - you eliminate the scammers

When I lived in Chicago the Reader had free ads for their paper and you could always post things on the board in the local Jewel Food Stores. I currently live about 60 miles outside Chicago, but our local radio station has a website, www.mytpost.com, you could try there if you think people might travel to purchase your items...

I totally agree!! I have also been using napervilleyardsales.com which is great. The problem is that its not as widely populated as craigslist so things move a lot slower but no spammers on that site as of yet.
I almost want to quit craigslist all together because of it. Well, good luck!
