My 2yr. old is always saying he's hungry or wants food. This only started about 2-3 weeks ago. He even says he wants food while he's eating it. And sometimes he will cry like he's in pain, saying he wants food, but he just ate dinner. I don't understand why. Could he have a tape worm or something? Also when this all started he has had alot more loose bowel movements. Please help!

What can I do next?

This is typical of young toddlers - it sounds to me like he's going through a growing spirt. My son - now 7 did the exact same thing - acted like he was starving all the time. We fed him a lot during that time but just make sure it's not greasy foods. It won't last forever - only a couple of weeks then you'll probably notice he'll be wearing highwaters since he grew.
Good luck!

I would take him to Dr. because he sounds like he has stomach problems. When my 20 mo was 12 wks we found out that his intestint tube was closed he wasnt getting enough food and it was coming back up as fast as he would drink it. I would take him in and get him tested because its scary I no my son had surgery at 12wks and if you dont like the Drs answer dont be afraid to get 2nd opinion because my childs peditrician missed it on him.

The symptoms you describe could indicate that he has a tape worm tho it's unlikely in today's world. It's definitely worth checking out. One thing you can do is save a sample in a closed container and look at it to see if you can see eggs or worms. A more accurate way is to take a sample to a lab. I would make an appointment with a pediatrician.

Some intestinal infestations do not yield visible eggs and worms. I had giardia after a trip to Mexico and the doctor kept telling me it was IBS when ultimately a stool sample showed giardia. We do get fruits and vegetables from other countries and it is possible, tho it doesn't happen often, that he could have picked up a parasite. There was a program on the health channel about a large city whose water supply had become infested. Getting a stool sample tested is a reasonable approach for you to take.

My grandson, who is now 6, has often said he's hungry but it turns out he wants a specific high sugar food such as candy or chips or some other snack food that he doesn't get very often when he's with his mother but does get whenever he asks when he's with his father.

But if your son is willing to accept any food then he is probably hungry. Could he be going thru a growth spurt, cutting new teeth, or being more physically active? Toddlers need more food some times than other times.

When I combine all of his symptoms together; saying he's hungry and wants food, crying as if in pain and not because he doesn't get the specific food he wants, and having loose bowel movements I would make an appointment with his pediatrician.

I would visit the doctor. Could be infection in his tummy, something could be blocking absorption of vitamins and minerals in his body. Could be bad bacteria in his stomach.

It sounds like a tape worm or something that you should wait on. Can you get him to the doctor's? This needs to happen. Best of luck.

God bless.

I would check to see if he had a worm just in case. But it could be an allergy to a type of food that makes him have tummy issues that cause him to feel or truly be hungry. Is he gaining weight? If not, he could have an allergy or celic from gluten based foods. What does the doc say? Have you asked him about it? Just watch him for anothwer week and see if it continues and if so get him some help.

Maybe a growth spurt. I can tell when my boys are growing because they are never full. If your worried, especially about the loose stool, call the pediatrician. But my boys were like this at that age. Insatiable appetite

Hi R.. If he is having frequent bowel movements and asking for food constantly he may have a digestive problem. I would certainly have a doctor check him out. If it continues and the doctor says nothing is wrong strongly consider another opinion. Good luck.

My son just went thru the same thing. We couldn't feed him enough. He was eating more than I was. I remember us taking him out of the pizza place crying b/c he said he was still hungary & wanted more food-he had had 3 plates of food. I thought there is no way that much food could fit inside him. It lasted a few weeks. He still eats a lot but not as much as we do & he doesn't say he his hungary all the time anymore. By the way, he is not overweight.

This is a growth time in their little lives. He is probably getting ready to grow. But, most intestinal paracites are nocturnal and you can take a flashlight into his room at night and peek in his diaper (you will have to practically take it off and look around his anus to see if there are any worms hanging around. Then you call the dr. for some anti-paracitic meds.
