So I really have slacked in the housekeeping department for well, maybe 10 years now. I'm turning a new leaf now! That being said, I have terrible stains in my toilets. They are hard, thick, and annoying. I have tried all kinds of cleaners. I had to chip some of it off with a knife, but there is still a lot there and it scratched the surface some. Any suggestions out there? I've tried the pumice stone also but that only helped a little. Thanks in advance.

It would be better to start all over again and buy a new seat at either Home Depot or Lowe's. Glad you're getting back on track with this!

I had similar issue in a rental place years ago...I got 'Lime Away'...at the time it was only in a liquid, but I have seen now it comes in bright lime bottles with a spray (foaming) nozzle...

there is a pumice stone that usually works. Aoso, there is a product called, the works. You can try that too.
As a cleaning service owner we deal with this issue all of the time. Try a commercial grade pumice stone, Barkeepers Friend (walmart or local store), and a little elbow grease. That should solve the problem depending on exactly how long the stains have been there. Good Luck!
I use the thick toilet bowl bleach. The key to using any kind of chemical is to flush the toilet and let the water drain out. When it starts to refill them put in the chemical so it doesn't wash away. Only do 1 toilet at a time (if you have multiple) and make that one out of commission for the day to let it soak. If you give it several hours most should be gone when you come back a few hours later.

I use The Works toilet bowl cleaner on my toilet. It works on contact, so you don't have to scrub. I would put it in the toilet, scrub it around a little and let it sit overnight. You might have to do it a few times if the toilet's that bad.
The PP mentioned Lime Away and that might work too. Again, I'd leave it sit overnight.
It could be hard water stains. Try something like CLR- It works on calcium buildup, lime and rust. Good Luck!
Vinegar is awesome. Turn off the water on your toilet, dump a bunch of vinegar in there, let it sit for several hours, and then scrub with a toilet brush. Works like a charm, and it's non-toxic!
Lime Away is a good product as is one by Lysol in the black sqeeze bottle. Its a toilet cleaner and it works great!! You just have to make sure you follow the instructions and leave it on with the lid closed for it to work. It gets rid of tough stains.
