I drove through one. It wasn't a big one but it caused a lot of damage because it hit st. Louis county. I was right at the beginning of it when it formed but it was rain wrapped and I couldn't see it. I couldn't see anything out of my windshield. It was scary but I.stayed calm. I felt bad.for all the people who lost their houses on New Years Eve.

I just popped my head up from my desk to look out the window, sun is still shining here. :) Missouri doesn't seem like a large state until you realize things like we are having perfect weather and apparently a tornado hit southern Missouri.
Ahh this morning. Yeah we had some crazy wind this morning but no sirens.
My favorite at the moment was the wall cloud over our subdivision last year. I am standing on the porch like a dipshit going, wow, it really does get perfectly calm when a tornado is about to hit....Thankfully my husband was yelling from the top of the steps, so maybe you should get down here!!! Oh, yeah.
Thankfully being urban it usually takes a lot of energy from a storm so they usually can't touch down in the city. That was the one good thing about the Good Friday tornadoes, they reminded us they still can.

we had one come through may 24 of last year... the tornado sirens were going off intermitently for quite some time, but the television stations wouldn't break away from regular programming(biggest loser) to cover the tiny area of dangerous storms... we put our kids(3) and dogs(4) in a safe area, then i stood in the front and watched the clouds, my husband stood in the back and watched the clouds - i finally yelled "got one", we took many photos and watched it - it was never coming at us, but was fairly close... there was no rain, and it was a long and skinny white rope tornado.

Yes first one I was around 10...dad pulled that car over said "get the "f" out of the car now"...mom grabbed my hand we basically rolled down the ditch...he had my sister and laid on top of her. We were not in the center of it just on the outskirt but she was three and so easily could have just been whipped up in the wind.
Then there are the MANY MANY times we've been close that cover needed to be taken. Around here if the sky isn't green you're good for NOW.
Then last spring we had some crazy storms come through (just days after Joplin I am 45-1 hr North)...my BFF calls and says "it's headed right for your office get your a$$ over here"...STUPID MOVE. As I was driving to her place the storm made a fast turn...I was about a mile from from her house and all went SILENT...have you really ever heard a city go SILENT? It's freaky! I ran two red lights and pulled in just as it past two streets over!

We have had some in MD, but none too close to my house...mayde 5 or so miles away and not huge ones. One came through when I was 8 months pregnant with my daughter. I had gone to Target to get Mother's Day cards and they locked us all inside. Talk about scary!! I had just turned 20 also.
The tornado that came through then did a LOT of damage in La Plata, MD. I have friends and family there, so it was very scary.
We have to hide in the basement a few times every spring as it is now...I pray one doesn't ever hit - but I'm thankful for our hideaway in case it does!

We were making a trip across two states to move after college and the birth of our first born. We were 45 miles from home when we new something was up..in other words we saw the wall cloud. We drove to the closest place we could find in the middle of nowhere WI. Hunkered down with our 2 week old daughter...(man if that doesn't make you love you child more then anything) The tornado missed our location by 7 miles. If we had kept driving we would have drove right into it....more then likely.

We have to get in the closet several times a year, but I've only actually been in one tornado. It was awful, and I had a miscarriage the same night. I was in the closet under the stairs with my oldest son who was 2 at the time. My husband was at work.
It was the big tornado in 2000 that tore up the bank building in downtown Ft. Worth, then worked it's way through Arlington. I lived in Arlington at the time. It danced through our neighborhood. Our house had minimal damage, but many of my students lost their homes. It was so sad.

Yep several! We lived in Kentucky. One hit Nashville, TN and worked its way to Bowling Green, KY. Looked like a war zone. We had about $11,000 worth of damage to our house.
Another time my husband was at Krogers with our son and all of a sudden someone ran in yelling "tornado". They all ran the the meat locker. My husband said that it does sound like a freight train! All the windows in our car where blown in. The car next to ours was flipped upside down.
Right after we picked up my mom at the airport this one time, I walked into our bedroom and heard the siren going off. Walked into the family room got my mom and hubby and woke up the kids and all piled into the bath tub. My mom was looking at us as we had done this several times before and declared it was "time for ya'll to move somewhere else"!
Yep, so we moved to Houston and have gone through a couple of Hurricanes! Yeehaw!

We had sirens and a watch/warning last night until late. The wind blew, the rain and thunder were not too bad but the air had that stillness that usually comes with tornado weather. I guess it's here early. We went on to bed though. No damage here.

I've lived in tornado alley my whole life and have never seen one! Spring is always exciting though. We keep the closet under the stairs cleared out (last night was the first time we thought we might need it this year). Interesting enough, this is my first tornado season as a mom, and for the first time in my life I was actually nervous about the weather. Oh well, we will just all spend some quality family time in the closet this spring.
