Trying to Develope a Routine

I am a single mother that works full time in the mornings in a very busy Pediatrician's clinic. By the time I pick up my daughter and make it home, it's already 6:30p.m. and I'm exhausted. It has been very difficult to develope a routine with my 6-month-old daughter that I can stick with because I'm so tired. Can anybody suggest a resonable routine that I can develope with my daughter that I would be able to stick with and not have me totally exhausted before I complete it? Any suggestions will help.

What can I do next?

My advice is to make sure you are very organized. A few examples of things I do are: double receipes when you cook and freeze meals for especially busy times, corrodinate errands so you aren't running all over, and try to run errands at lunch so you don't have to bring the baby with you; throw a load of laundry in before you go to bed and into the dryer before you go to work...the little things help me so that I can focus on my son for a few hours each night. The tired thing eventually gets better. She is still young and you are still adjusting. My son is 2 1/2 now, and has tons of energy...but I do feel less tired.

Good luck.

I think getting into a routine with any child can be difficult and tiring. Unfortunelty, us Mom's don't have much choice. Your baby is going to be way more active and have tons more energy then we will ever have. I have a 6 yr old and a 1 yr old and I also am a full time working Mom. For me, my little one lays down for a nap when we get home (around 4:30-5:00pm) and that gives me a little down time also. Then when we all get up, I make dinner while the kids play out their new found burst of energy and after dinner we play a little longer then it is bath time and off to bed, usually for all of us. I am kicked every day by that time. Also, you may want to look into vitamins. They say that if you take regular vitamins that it helps with energy. I am working on that myself. I hope this gives you a few ideas, good luck to you!

Get yourself some Baby Einstien videos and plop on the couch with the baby and a bottle. They're about a half hour long. Then worry about dinner.

I also work full time and have 6 month old daughter. I know what you mean about being exhausted by the time you get home! Our evening routine goes like this:

We get home, I unpack her daycare bag while she plays with some toys nearby. I put her in her exersaucer while I go change out of my work clothes. Then I prepare her dinner (usually some cereal and a fruit or veggie). Feed her, then feed me. By this time, its time for a bath, then read her a book, give her a bottle, and to bed she goes. She is in bed no later than 8:30 pm. I then will go into the kitchen and clean whatever mess I made and will then make the formula for the next day and also puree whatever food she will eat at daycare the next day. (I make her babyfood. Though, I do give her the store bought stuff when I have an extremely busy day and cannot make her food.)

On the weekends (my days off) I will make extra meals for her and for us and freeze them. This really helps on those busy days when you don't have the time or energy to actually cook food.

I make the formula the night before so I don't have so many things to do in the morning. I will also throw in a load of laundry before bed and then toss it in the dryer before I leave for work. And sometime before I go to bed I will fold it and put it away.

My big advice is to just do what you can here and there. And don't stress if everything does not get done.

Hope this helps you!
