TTC #2 Question...

My husband and I have a healthy happy little girl who just turned 4 who is the center of our world, however our family doesn't feel complete yet. We have been ttc #2 on and off (trying to time the pregnancy for spring b/c of work) for 2.5 yrs with no luck. Since it's been somewhat casual up to this point I haven't worried, but we are getting older and have now set a time limit for trying "naturally" (no help from md in any way). We have decided that if we aren't succesfuly by July, we will talk to the ob/gyn. A little background, I have PCOS and I was told it would be very difficult for me to conceive BUT we conceived DD without even trying. She was a honeymoon surprise! So I'm not sure how to time when we should try. I bought some ovulation test strips and hope to try them in my next cycle, since I'm due for my period. My question: Did you use ovulation test strips? How long did you use them before getting a positive pregnancy test? Any tips? Is there anyone that has PCOS that can share some insight? Thank you for the wisdom in advance!

What can I do next?

Hi! I used OPK's, the 20 strip Answer brand kind, when TTC #2.
Had success on the 2nd cycle! We also used PreConcieve since I didn't have an abundance of CM at the time. And I kept my bum up for 30 minutes afterwards. We had been trying for a long time too (though I don't have PCOS) and I think these 3 things really helped us.

Oh and one thing I wanted to share was that the test strips say they are only good for 30 days...I used them after 30 days and concieved my son sooo...don't toss 'em if you haven't used them all up for one cycle. :)

Hope that helps!!! GL! Babydust!

Read the book "Taking Charge of Your Fertility". It will answer MOST if not all of your questions! Very informative and teaches you what you need to know!

Read Taking charge of your fertility. Great book for many reasons, my favorite is knowing the Day I am going to get my period. So nice. Oh and great for not getting pregnant and for getting pregnant. Just a great book all around. Enjoy the process :)

I also have PCOS, and was under the care of a Fertility Specialist. They found out I have and insulin resistance and refered me to an endrocronologist. He in turn put me on Metformin, and I go pregnant within the first couple of weeks on the medication. My obgyn told me it could just be coincidental, but I don't think so. Good luck to you, I hope it all works out. BTW... I am 28 weeks pregnant with my 2nd child.

I have PCOS and it took 4 years to get pregnant with my daughter and 1.5 with my son. I oovluate at very random times. We had given up when we got pregnant with DD. We tried for 3 years with no success so we just gave up and relaxed. I got pregnant with in a year. With our son, I went in to get on fertility drugs and my ob said I did not need them because, I was already pregnant. I used the oovulation kit when TTC #1 but, they did not work for me. It would say I was oovulating and then a month later I would not be pregnant. Metphormine is supose to help you conceive and it is way cheep $4 for a month supply. It makes you sick at first but, gets better.

**Adding this: there are great online "ovulation calendars."
Just Google Search it. They are free.

This is the one I used once:

I just went according to my ovulation symptoms.
Got pregnant that way, naturally.
had sex everyday for 1 week once I knew my ovulation symptoms were on its way.
I am real regular as well, and I know, when I'm gonna ovulate.

If you have trouble conceiving, you may want to open up when you try (i.e. not trying to limit it to just a spring delivery). It seems easier to conceive when you aren't stressing over when it should happen and it doesn't always happen at exactly the times we want it to. There are signs your body will give you when you are ovulating. I always had some pressure like pain, got really horny, change and increase in discharge, and had a little spotting. Stress is defininelty the enemy. I have known several women who thought they couldn't conceive, had IVF for their first or first and second and then were amazed when the next little baby was conceived naturally because they assumed they were done and it just couldn't happen for them. Good luck to you!
