UPDATE Not Ringworm, Bizarre Mystery Circle Rash/Bruise?

OK, I don't have the whole story here but I'm going to throw in my 2 cents just in case.

My son is allergic to nickel. When he was an infant he had these weird little circles on his chest, the nurse at the doctors office said "maybe it's ringworm" this new mother was NOT happy about that comment!! Turns out he was reacting to the nickel in the snaps to the sleepers he was wearing to bed. I switched to Oshkosh brand sleepers and the problem went away. He still has a problem with belt buckles and those fun dog tags that people wear.

What about a tick bite. Not sure if you have deer ticks where you live but a round red bullseye is a sure indicator of a tick bite and Lyme's disease. Google it to see if it looks similar. And you might want to bring it up with the dr.or nurse.

Yes that does sound like ringworm. She could've caught the ringworm from any animal who has it. Perhaps the cat who scratched her. Or from using a cloth that has the virus on it. One student on a cross country train trip acquired it from her own washcloth that she had laid on the counter next to the sink on the trip.

As to the petichiae they are caused by pressure on small blood vessels. They are like very small bruises. I've seen them most often after a baby has cried loudly for 10 minutes or so. Those are usually on the face But can be anywhere.

Get her tested for Lyme disease, now. A circular "bullseye" rash is a sign of Lyme and Lyme is nothing to mess with. If she has it they will put her on a course of antibiotics, possibly for quite a while, but you must follow their orders and ensure she takes them all. Lyme in young kids who follow the doctors' protocols can turn out OK -- my friend's kid had it and is now clear after a long course of antibiotics. But if it is not treated, it can create lifetime problems that are serious. Even if she has NO other symptoms of Lyme (aching joints is one, but at her age, she might not report the aches to you accurately) get her tested right away so they can start treatment if indeed it is Lyme. Even if you think "she hasn't been outside, it's been winter, I never saw a tick" etc. -- insist on a Lyme test. Better to have the test and be told it wasn't Lyme than to wait and find out she's gone untreated if it was indeed Lyme.

The circles do sound like ringworm, and if they are (that is, once your ped confirms it), all you need to do is get some lamisil at any drug store (it's with athlete's foot creams). However, be forewarned that if it is ringworm, it can take several weeks to go away, and if she goes to daycare, they'll want you to keep it covered with a bandaid so it doesn't spread. Even after we started treatment and our ped told us it was no longer contagious, the school insisted that we keep it covered.

I second Mel's remarks. I'd be REALLY concerned about Lyme's. The nurse probably didn't think this through. Make sure you ask the doctor for a Lyme's test.
