Hi,
Has anyone used Sittercity to get a babysitter? What was your experience?
Thanks,
M.
Thanks for the positive feedback. I did post on Sittercity and got a number of interested women apply. But given the short timing, I didn't have time to interview anyone or have someone spend a few hours with my son, so we didn't do our Friday plans. But I would consider using it in the future.
One thing I did do though was I went over to my local high school and walked into the guidance counselor's office to see if there were any girls they would recommend. Right there was a nice girl who gave me her number (and that of a friend's.) The guidance counselors said that she was fabulous and the reason she was in the office was that she volunteers there instead of taking a study hall. I figured that's how I got babysititng referrals when I was in high school - and the guidance counselors usually know who's reliable and mature. Unfortunately, neither she nor her friend were available Friday night, but I will call them over the summer.

I used it with great results too. Just like everyone else, we posted a very specific add and interviewed a bunch of candidates and found 2 people that worked out nicely. We also required a background check and references.
I haven't used sitter city personally, but a friend and neighbor of mine used it. she interviewed several people and has a wonderful sitter that she uses every thurs. for several hours.
Hi,
I've used Sittercity to find most of my babysitters, all with excellent results! I found quite a few very caring and talented babysitters using their resources.

I've used it to find several sitters. Typically I check their references and then the first time, I have them come when I can be at home as well (I work from home so I can easily hide away in my office but still be able to hear if things are going well). Some of the sitters are better than others (in terms of promptness, organization, willingness to straighten up while the baby's asleep) but all have been great with my daughter.
We got our current nanny from Sittercity, and had 3 others that were possible candidates. I interviewed over 20 and none of them were awful or anything. I really liked it and recommend it as a service.
I was reluctant to have any one other then family watch my daughter, but, family just isn't always available when we need a sitter. I used Sittercity & found 2 wonderful sitters. I placed my ad & was very specific in the type of person I was looking for as well as what our expectations are. I received alot of responses & did my homework calling references. I arranged interviews at a local Starbucks. I then narrowed it down to about 5 girls & had them for a 2nd interview in our home. One of our sitters had a background check (which we required), the other was willing to have one & did. I think it's a great service, but I would definitely check people out & I like doing the interviews at a public place before bringing people into my home. Good luck, I know it's a hard decision.
I used it once, got a great sitter from NYU that stayed with us for a year until she graduated
I would rather go by referrals though, but there arent always any!!
