I loved the Outer Bank, NC. If you want scenic and rustic, then stay in Corolla (scenic yet close to stuff), Avon or Rodanthe. (a bit more secluded)
Have been to TN and absolutely loved the running rivers and nature. Want to go somewhere else but we're focusing on North Carolina, Virginia or Kentucky. If you are familiar with those areas are there any special areas, possibly on a lake so we could rent a cabin but venture into some town for some kid-friendly entertainment?? 4 younger teens will be coming so any/all suggestions would be appreciated. God bless!!

I live in what is considered the Southern Outer Banks, on Emerald Isle. Lots of reasonable weekly rentals on the beaches. Gorgeous water, dolphins, sea shells, kid friendly entertainment, and restaurants. Come on down, you will love it! Bring your bikes!
We live in MD and I can tell you it's beautiful here. We are right on the water, but I don't recommend swimming in it.
A lot of people from here go to Lake Gaston for camping, that's right along the NC/VA state lines.
We loved OBX, stayed in Corolla for a week last year...it was beautiful!
If you go to Va beach, expect crowds. But it's a lot of fun too.
I lived in KY as well, and it's also beautiful.
So it really depends on what you are looking for....mountains, beach, lake, etc. Then you will know what's right for you.
We just came back from Maryland & Washington DC. They have the Potomac River where I saw people in boats and canoes. I didn't see any cabins, but Washington DC was very interesting and Maryland was beautiful. Georgetown was also a fun town, near Washington DC.
Obx all the way. We stayed in Hatteras and it was secluded but driving distance to other places. Kite surfing might be something to try.
I have bee outer banks to the outer banks in NC and LOVED it. The beaches are not crowded at all. We saw tons of crabs, water birds and dolphins!
Kentucky is great too. Depending on how old the younger teens are, Jellystone campground there is great. There is also mammoth caves nearby, horse back, zip lines, etc
Depends on what you're looking for!
Kentucky is very pretty, similar to TN in a lot of ways. I would suggest, if you like natural attractions, that you look into Mammoth Cave.
The campgrounds below have cabins and got very good ratings from people who stayed there:
