I'm looking to purchase a decent vacuum nothing too pricey, I would prefer a Dyson but can't afford it. Just moved in, house has carpet so have no idea what to buy. I have a child with Asthma, carpet not ideal but until I can afford hardwood floors. Thanks in advance

So What Happened?

I ended buying the Eureka Airspeed Zuum, great suction, but a bit dusty and somewhat heavy for me. Will look into another vacuum, a thanks for the responses.

I am also in the market for a new vacuum and have been doing some research. I am way too practical to spend money on a Dyson. Am leaning towards the Shark Navigator Pro. Great reviews and can use a coupon at Bed Bath and Beyond for 20% off if you have that store near you.

Bed, Bath and Beyond will usually take their 20% off coupons on vacuums. Not sure if that will help you out. We do have a dyson and love it, it is 8 years old now and still going strong. There are lots of good choices out there, hope you find one.

I had a Dyson and am SO thankful to be rid of that garbage! I now have a Shark Navigator and love it!

I could fill a page with how terrible our Dyson vac was! I have no idea why people like them so much.

My sister just got a Dyson on Overstock.com (I think). She had a Dyson forever and it died. She didn't want to spend the money, but after purchasing and returning 4 different vacuums, she spent the money. I think she only paid $300. We got our Dyson Animal on Amazon.com 6 years ago. It was 'refurbished'. I called and asked what that meant and they told me if they are ever returned they can't sell them as brand new. Ours still works great!

My mom has a Dyson and hates it....

Don't get set on 1 namebrand.. check out a few.

I have a Hoover that is 20 yrs old and works well. I've used my Oreck XL for about 7 yrs and LOVE it... so lightweight, easy to use, eliminates the need for a vac on each floor of the house because it is so light.

Dysons are way overrated, so don't feel bad you can't afford one. My husband has OCD and was convinced our newer Bissell wasn't doing enough, so he bought a pricey Dyson. Neither of us was impressed. It didn't pick up as much as the Bissell and it was a pain to use the attachments. We ended up selling the Dyson on Craigslist and going back to the Bissell.

Aim for one of the Bissells in their cyclonic line.

I have to say Dyson. If you look for refurbished you can get some really great deals. I have seen some around $200.

My favorite feature is that it comes apart. Every piece can be taken off, easily, cleaned, and put back. So, when you get something in the hose, like a crayon, you can quickly fix it.

I have had mine for 9 years and it is wonderful. I am sorry to those who have had bad luck with theirs.
