T.M.
I had a big one when i gave birth to my 2nd. It used to hurt quite a bit. The OB stitched it off to the side, just before i pushed her out. Yuck! That was 15 years ago, i was 19 and a tiny little thing :)
I am 25 weeks pregnant with our 3rd baby and I have horrendous varicose veins on my left leg and now in my vagina(is hoo ha better?:) . The veins never went away after the birth of our second baby. They hurt like the dickens-especially after sex. The largest one is the width of my thumb running from my vagina all the way down to my knee. Anyways...I found out that a c-section is possible because of the severity of the veins. Does anyone else have them in your vagina? Have you or anyone you know had to have a csectiopn because of your not so little friends? How are they treated after the baby is born? What are the risks when giving birth with large veins in your vagina? Sorry if it's tmi!!! I just never knew that you could have varicose veins down there or that they could be a problem!

A friend had them and had vaginal birth but other than that don't know.
My niece is pg with #4 (due in July) was just here visiting and she showed me hers...sounds just like yours...I've never seen such BAD ones before and feel sooooo bad for her...she said her doctor even said hers are way bad, also her's hurt alot! Nothing you can do, however, she wears compression socks all the time, I know, a pain when it's hot out but she wears them and says it makes a huge difference and once she is done having this baby, her LAST, she is going to have surgery...doc told her you can have surgery on the veins but not until you are DONE having all your kiddos...otherwise they will come back (the veins). She said insurance covers the "main veins" and then any "cosmetic veins" you want to have fixed you have to pay to have done...didn't totally understand it all, but my niece is such a pretty girl and then you look at her legs and it's like "whoa", and then to know they are soooooooo painful besides! I feel for you!
I had never had them until my 3rd pregnancy and they got quite painful in my "hoo ha" region. My doctor never said anything but I found that walking more made them not hurt as bad. Whether or not all my walking was a good or bad thing for the nasty veins, I don't know. When I gave birth my doc commented on just one, more to the nurse than me and my husband told me it was like she was applying pressure to it while my baby came out. By the time I left to go home 2 days later, the veins have never been an issue since, thank goodness!!
Had them. Had to wear special "support" (looks like a girl version of a jock strap though there are bigger versions more like underwear) that didn't help much. see: http://www.underworks.com/maternity/3777.html
Was also told to use cold packs and heat packs (warm not hot) alternately to manage swelling. That DID help alot. Taking lots of walks helped with circulation too.
I slept with a pillow between my knees and later used a special rubber knee block (used to correct spine during sleep) to relieve pressure there at night. DH was not happy during the time the hoo-ha was out of commish but it just wasn't happening. And I did have to have a c-section, but not because of the swollen "hoo ha" (lol! that is sooo funny!) problem (fetal distress was the reason). On top of the swelling, my problem was complicated with a condition called " symphus pubis dysfunction." Perhaps this is happening with you too? See:http://www.birthsource.com/scripts/article.asp?articleid=189
After the delivery, I was "instantly" better. I mean, instantly! No swelling, could walk, could do everything like before the baby.
I got them all over the vulva area with my third. A couple smaller ones got nicked and bled closer to the end. Nothing like the panicked call to the midwife when you see blood when it's too early for your little one to come!
They weren't a problem at all. I just had to be more aware of them. I had a completely unmediated and uncomplicated vaginal delivery, didn't even need an episiotomy! The recovery was fine and they either went away completely or are much smaller now. The few I have don't bother me in anyway and it's been almost 3 years since my daughter was born.
I had them in my "hoo ha" area also w/ my 2nd baby...it felt so nasty, but doc said it was ok and we just kept on eye on it so it wouldn't burst. He said it's actually pretty common, due to the pressure of the baby pushing down on everything.
After he was born, I never had any problems...not sure if it's because I had episiotomy(sp) and the doc "fixed" everything while he was down there. But all is well in "that area" now! And my kids are 12 & 13!
Best of luck to you in your pregnancy!
