The velco on my daughter's tennis shoes straps is wearing out and they won't stay secure any longer. The shoes are still in great shape otherwise. Does anyone have any solutions for fixing the velco straps?

What can I do next?

Look at the velcro. Most of the time when the velcro won't stick together anymore its because there is a bunch of "stuff" stuck in it. Like string, lint, fuzzy stuff. I find a large needle or toothpick works well for getting all that stuff out of the velcro. Once its clean it should start sticking together again.

If all else fails, you can buy velcro strips in the sewing/crafts dept at meijers, walmart etc. and you can either glue or sew a new piece of velcro over the old.

We have used super glue (hubby has a good hobby glue that works well).

How old are the shoes? My son had a pair of Nike shoes and the velcro stopped working after about 3 months. I took them back to the store and they did give me a little bit of a hassle because I didn't have my receipt, but that is the only store that I shoe shop for my whole family so the sales girls know me! They ended up trading them out for the same shoe in the same size. Now I save all of my receipts until the shoes don't fit my child anymore. That way, if there is a problem again, I can go right back to the store!

You could try a shoe repair shop. They are usually very reasonable.

If its the actual velcro that is wearing out, you can buy rolls of velcro from walmart in the craft section. Cut it to size. Trim off any of the old velcro that would hinder good sticking and either use the adhesive on the back to put it on (probibly not much staying power) or use super glue. No matter which way you try it I would use my thickest sharpest needle to put a couple stitches in to hold it to the strap as extra security...
