Hi ladies! A good friend of mine just got her 3 year old home from the hospital after surgery. He is on a VERY strict low fat diet, about 2-3 fat grams per meal (long story, because of complications) He has to be on that diet for at least a few weeks. She is trying to come up with ideas of what to feed him. Any ideas? He can do very lean meats, fruits, veggies etc. What ideas do you have for meals?
Thanks so much!

What can I do next?

I would hope that the doctor and/or a nutritionist gave her a list of do's and don'ts and some menu ideas. If not, she should ask.
Lean meats, fruits and veggies. That's not so bad if he likes those things.
I hope the little guy is feeling better soon.

Best wishes.

Tell her to check out the Ornish Diet plan for ideas of low fat recipes. THis diet was developed for heart patients and it is extremely low fat. Of course a 3 yo wouldn't be on a 'diet' but if he needs the lowest fat recipes this is where you will find them.

Stir Fry comes to mind, with or without meat. You can add mandarin oranges and lots of veggies! Baked potato with broccoli, salad (no cheese and watch the ddressings). Maybe check out recipes at www.cookinglight.com .

I imagine cereal (oatmeal, cream of wheat, Cheerio's,etc) should be pretty low fat.
Carrot sticks (par boiled so they aren't too crunchy), squash/mashed potatoes (no butter on it), egg plant (you can cut it into bite sized pieces then sprinkle with a little salt and garlic powder - eat it raw or bake it - it's good either way). Eggs might be ok if you use just the egg whites or an egg substitute. Beans are good. Jello. Leafy salad (either with no dressing or a no fat dressing or you can roll it up in a soft tortilla with a little turkey or chicken meat). Low fat tofu. No fat yogurt. Just about any fruit except maybe avocado.
