I am so scared. Wednesday night my nipple was very sore then on Thursday when I was changing it was sore when the clothes rubbed on it. I squeezed the nipple and blood started coming out. After the blood clear fluid came out. I never breast feed and my daughter is almost 4. Has anyone had blood discharge from their nipple?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks to all of you who were concerned. I have been getting test done and saw a cancer specialist yesterday. She told me that she could not tell me exactly why the blood came out but that it is not breast cancer. Almost 90% of bloody discharge is not cancer. That was a hugh relief.

First of all, CALL your doctor. Your health is very important. This could be as simple as an infection or as complicatated as your imagination takes you. Do not delay....see your doctor.

Go to the doctors and make sure they send you for a mammogram. It could be cancer. Better to be safe then sorry. You definitely would want to catch that before it's too late.

I know how scary this is. This happened to me when I was in my early twenties, and I went to the doctor and had a mammogram. They found nothing wrong. The doctor said sometimes this happens and it could be irritation or a slight infection, sort of like a pimple. I'm 42 now and have had no problems since then. I get regular mammograms now that I'm in my 40's. To put your mind at ease, you should follow-up with your doctor and get a mammogram. www.livingreenathome.com www.get-your-green-on.com

L., sorry you are having pain. But you need to make an appointment and see your dr. This isn't normal for a woman your age. It is best to seek professional help and not take advise from the moms on here. This is a medical issue. I hope it isn't serious and only needs medication, but please seek a dr's advise. I am a mother of 6 and 54 yrs old.

I have never experianced what you have described, but I have had other breast issues. I would go get it checked out ASAP. I know how frightning this type of situation can be, but you need to be checked out.

I agree with all the advice to see your Dr--simply because of the blood.

I will note that 10% of women do have white or clear excretions from their breasts for no particular reason. I'm one of them. I went through testing from 3 different GYN's for this over the years, and none found a cause--but also none told me that this happens to women other than me. I was left with the belief that I had some strange ailment that my Dr's just couldn't diagnose until I read in a women's magazine about other women also experiencing this.

I would call the dr. I just recently read an article that said different things can stimulate secretion from your nipples but it should be effecting both, not just one. I would definatly call the dr on monday, they might be able to just help you over the phone instead of making you come in.

I have never had this experience, but I do know that having any liquid come out of your breast that is not breastmilk is a red flag that warrants checking with your doctor. I do not know that it is serious or not, but if it was me, I would contact my dr asap and get it checked out.
