We've been on Vonage for a couple years and are happy with it. Definitely SUCH a deal compared to the regular phone company and all their little charges for everything.
Hello everyone. I am trying to cut back on some monthly bills and have heard about Vonage vs. Verizon for our phone services. It seems like a very good deal as far as montly expenses, but I wondered about the quality as far as the connection. An ex-neighbor of mine had the service and I noticed that every time I talked to her, I could hear an echo on my end that drove me crazy!! I am not sure if she heard it on her end, but I would hate for people I am talking to on the phone to have that annoyance.
It may have been improved since then, however I don't know and would love some feedback.
Thank-you!!

I have had Vonage for a couple of years, and their service continues to get better. It's as good as any VOIP. If you would like, send me your email address and I'll send you a link to get the Vonage free for a month. With any of the VOIP systems, you must have a really good phone instrument. I would tell you the best I've found is the DECT 6.0. It is portable and has the best reception and least interference.
Hi D., I am a work from home mom/grandma who talks to literally thousands of independent business associates. I have mostly heard comments of enormous dissatisfaction regarding Vonage, with only an occasional positive comment. Also, my daughter got it and cannot wait to get rid of it. So it is good you are checking it out first. There are other lots of other ways to cut back. Check out www.stretcher.com to live more frugally.
We have had Vonage business for the last 3 years and it has been great. The service has improved over the last year. I was watching news on NBC last night and they mentioned T mobile has the same home phone service as Vonage for only $10 with all the same features. The only catch is you have to have there cell service. Vonage has been wonderful for us.
We have Vonage and we love it. We did have issues at the beginning but the problem was with our settings and once we changed them, everything worked fine. For those who hear an echo, the problem can most likely be resolved by adjusting your settings. We pay $25/month for unlimited calls. You can call Canada, Mexico & some other countries for free. You would need to look at their rates depending on what countries you typically call because some cost more than others. Also, the price includes caller ID, voice mail, call forwarding, 3 way calling and more. If you are out of town, you can have the calls forwarded to your cell (or another number) or if you don't want to be fielding calls from your home phone, you can just go to their website and check your voicemails and incoming calls from there. As with any type of service, you will find those who love it or hate it.
Hi D.,
We got Vonage about a month ago and it has been great. I have never heard an echo from our end, or when I've called in from work or my cell phone. I can't believe how cheap it is!

I'm not sure about Vonage, but we have Brighthouse digital phone bundled with our tv and internet and pay about $120 a month for all 3. It's a lifesaver for us, as the majority of our family and friends live out of town/state. We don't have any major issues like the echoing or anything like that, but about once every week or two we have to reset the modem, which is a minor inconvenience compared to saving a lot of $$. Until we switched to Brighthouse, we were paying about $150/month for a landline phone thru Sprint/Embarq. To me it was definitely worth it to switch to a broadband phone service.
myself and my daughter in nebraska both threw our vonage to the trash. we both as well as my brother in n. carolina and my uncle in lubbock, texas have now gone eith magicjack. the cost is $39.95 to purchase the unit and shipping and handling i think was 7.00. they give you your first year service free and after that its $20.00 per year. i geet free local and long distance, caller id, that comes right up on my computer monoter screen, 911, i can call over seas with their long distance plan of 3 cents a minute. some of the countries are free. my daughter calls her step sister in sicily for free, i call a grandson in germany in the army for free, and when my son ships to s. korea it will cost me 3 cents a minute. they are partners with AT&T, any phone land or portable works on it, it plugs right into the usb port on your computer. it works on a lap top as well as a pc. only thing is you have to have DSL. i can be on the phone as well as the pc at the same time. you can also upgrade to the next plan and get longer service for less money. ive been with them for almost a year now. your computer does have to be on for it to work. you can take it with you if you have a lap top and use it when you are on the go. oh yes you get the first 30 days free to try it out, you dont like it you ship it back free. you also have access to tec support with a live person thru the help site with texting. if they assign you the wrong area code you contact tec and they will change it for you. my family loves it. go to MAGICJACK.COM and check it out. good luck GMAJ
