Waking up Crying - Stomach Pains

I'm not sure what is going on here. My daughter is four and the past couple weeks she has woken up saying her tummy hurt. I stay in the room with her for a while and she tosses and turns like she's uncomfortable. Then goes back to sleep.

It only happens at night. She is perfectly fine through out the day. No runny stool, no fever, no vomiting. She doesn't have any complaints during the day. Runs, plays...she just fine.

She had the flu last month and was very sick from that. She stayed congested for a while, and at first I thought maybe she was having some drainage and that was causing it. I know it makes me sick to my stomach when that happens. But she hasn't been congested in the last few days and she still woke up last night.

She has been really hungry lately. Seriously, she wants to eat all the time. Maybe this is growing pains? I'm on the verge of taking her in, but as she doesn't have any other symptoms and it only happens at night, my husband doesn't think they will do anything for us.

Any ideas?

What can I do next?

Sounds constipated. They are too busy during day to notice, but at night, when activity is gone, they feel it. If u know that not to be the case, see physician. Ur husband is not a dr. Always trust your gut. I remember with my 2 nd child fighting with my husband because it was Saturday and we had plans, but bay was crying and wouldn't stop, didn't act right. I insisted on going to the dr. when the nurse asked what was wrong, he sneeringly condescended to her" kids got a tummy ache and thinks that needs a drs attention." That then caused the nurse to treat me brusque and dismissively. The dr came in, diagnosed bad double ear infections(which I'd never dealt with before), and then gave a through oral chastising to my husband and the nurse.
Educate yourself about children and their. Ariel us maladies, don't be an alarmist type mother, but trust your instincts as a mom.

Take her in. Better safe than sorry. I don't know what else to tell you.

She may be constipated - my four year old was in miserable pain one day when I picked her up from daycare...every 20 minutes or so she would get this attack of terrible pain that really had me freaking out. Took her to the ER (after hours), and an x-ray showed that everything was ok, she was just all backed up! A few days of Miralax and making sure she had ample time in the bathroom (with reminders) really helped her out. Now we give her fiber gummies every day, and make sure she gets more fruit and veggies.

Yes, get her seen unless your husband is a pediatrician!

My first thought was constipation too. See a doctor but also monitor her bowel movements - is she having one daily or every other day or less often? Does she strain to have them? If she's eating a lot more lately, she may be backed up with constipation. And she may be feeling it only at night when she lies down or when she's not busy playing.

Drainage also could still be happening; because you don't hear congestion, that does not mean there isn't any. It can linger a long time and not make a kid snuffly but be there in the nasal cavities and throat.

Stomach pains do not sound like growing pains to me; those are associated more with the limbs, "charlie horse" pains etc.

Let us know what the doctor says. And if your husband is the type who says "Let's not bother the doctor for nothing," please re-read the post below by Dawn-Marie!!

I am guessing constipated. If she isn't having pain then diarrhea, gas or vomiting with it. My guess is constipation. you say she has gotten very hungry. So she is probably hungry due to having had the flu and needing to replenish her body from that. Strengthening. And children have growth spirts all the time too. So if she is eating a lot, and has recently been sick, she is probably constipated. Miralax can help with this a lot. It is completely pain free and wouldnt hurt her at all to try. Consult your physician of course. But this sounds like the closest answer for me. I have crohns so I am pretty sure it is nothing to be really concerned with. If it does not start to go away then start to be worried. Good Luck
