Morning Moms!

We aren't able to make a tournament. Friends of ours offered to take our son with them. It's two nights in a hotel. We accepted their offer.

We will send money with our son to cover his food, etc.

We would like to treat them for taking our son.

What is appropriate? Thanks ladies!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks everyone! Great ideas as always :)

ETA - we ended up going with a VISA gift card so they could use it towards the cost of the trip or afterwards, whatever they wanted and a gift card to a restaurant we knew they'd go to on the trip - to help out. Our child went with plenty of money to cover all his food costs, etc. too.

We had offered to pay our son's share of hotel and gas money also - and they wouldn't hear any of it. Said they were going anyhow.

It was just enough to be generous but not make anyone feel uncomfortable - so thank you ladies :) Perfect suggestions!

I would give them a gift card - like a Visa or Mastercard one - with enough money for dinner for all of them.

if they're friends, take 'em out to dinner. if they're not really close friends, a gift card to a restaurant.

How sweet of them!

I would treat them to dinner either by going together if you are friends and enjoy that or give them a generous gift card to one of their favorite restaurants.

You're very kind to acknowledge them.

Well that was very nice of them!

Any sort of a thank you gift that fits their style would be great.
Starbucks gift card if they are into that.
A small fruit basket or flower arrangement.
If they like house plants - a small gift plant (succulents or cactus are slow growing and easy to care for).
A scented candle (if you don't know what they like you can't go wrong with vanilla).
Small box of candy, a batch of cookies or fudge.

Or you can invite them all out for dinner your treat.
There are lots of nice ways to show your appreciation.

dinner out or a gift card for restaurant.
Vanilla candles are a big one on the no no list. they cause headaches in many. i cannot purchase vanilla scented anything for anyone in my family. use caution on that one. (vanilla causes migraines for me, so i avoid it at all costs)

I would give something towards the hotel room. They probably won’t accept but I would definitely offer. Plus send money for food etc. then at another time treat yo dinner etc.

Unless you frequently get together with this couple for dinner, or a movie, or other social events, I wouldn't thank them by taking them out to dinner or by obligating them to a social event with you. If you do go out monthly or whatever, for drinks, or dinner, make sure that next time you pick up the check, and thank them in person for taking care of your son.

If you don't usually socialize with this family, outside of seeing them at tournaments, then be sure to write them an actual thank you, in a card or letter, and include a Visa gift card that can be used any way they like (gas, dinner, etc).

But I think what is most important here is to thank them, in writing. Keep it simple but make it sincere.

And make sure your son understands what his spending money is for, and understands the favor that this family is doing for him and you. Make sure he doesn't order room service, or charge things to the room.

Treating them to dinner sounds nice, or how about an edible arrangement? Those are always popular and useful since they can be eaten, unlike flowers that die in a couple of days. Very nice gesture on their part, and yours, for wanting to thank them like that.

If you can pay for the hotel room? I would do that. Or give them a gift card (like AMEX pre-paid) so they can buy meals...if they are driving? GAS CARDS!!

My children have been taken to tournaments by other parents many times. It's so expensive!
I have never given the parents anything...probably because sometimes I take their children to things and would never expect anything in return.
The only thing I would send is money for his food and I would give the parents some gas money while thanking them SO MUCH for taking my kid!

How generous are you planning to be? You could pre-pay the hotel room cost. Or send your son with a gift card to a nearby restaurant to take them all out to eat.
