My daughter's birthday is April 15 and we would love to get her a puppy. I was wondering if anyone will have a puppy that would be ready for adoption in late April? I would prefer a mixed breed.

What can I do next?

hi Danielle-
Go to the APL- they have TONS of mixed breeds, and it's great if you can save one...

My girlfriend has 2 male chorkies (yorkie chihuahua mix). They are about 5 monthe old. They have shots and are wormed and cage trained. They are really cute!

Go to petfinder.com. You can search on type, age, size, sex, etc. If you get one from a local pound they may not know the pet's background (good with kids, etc). We did this and got lucky, our dog is wonderful with our two children. Most rescue places that are on petfinder will be able to tell you a little more about the temperment and such.

Good Luck.

My Mom lives 5.5 hours away (Northwest, IN) but she has puppies (Standard Poodles, purebred with papers... sorry ... not mixed breeds) with GREAT parents. They are beautiful! maybe too far and not what you want, but I thought of them when you asked. They'll be ready in about 3 weeks.

I'd also recommend helping out a shelter animal. There are a number of different rescue sites online as well--sites like www.grinrescue.org where they rescue golden retrievers and then find them homes. Research the breeds that have better temperaments and are better with kids (like labs and goldens) and then you can look for those breeds (or mixes) in the shelters or rescue sites. We got our Abby from someone who found her wandering and she has been wonderful with our kids! AND we felt really good for rescuing her and giving her a loving home, rather than contributing to puppy mills and other such things. PLUS, I'll add that getting an older dog (not a puppy) makes things much easier because they are usually already housebroken and often have some idea of house rules... Have fun!
