Does anyone have a good way of washing non organic fruits and veggies? Is there a good wash that you recommend that is inexpensive? I heard you can wash the fruits and veggies with dish soap or hydrogen peroxide, but I haven't tried it yet. Any suggestions?

I have never heard of using peroxide, however if you use dish soap on your fruit, the taste of soap will probably not come out. I have washed my soda can tops with dish soap and the flavor of soap stays there no matter how much you rinse. What happened to running water for about 20 seconds? If you are concerned, scrub them with a clean brush used just for you fruits and veggies.

Sophie Uliano's Veggie Cleaner Spray

If you can't buy organic produce, you need to make sure you wash it thoroughly. Use this spray to make sure your fruit and vegetables are squeaky clean.

Ingredients:

1 cup water
1 cup distilled white vinegar
1 tablespoon baking soda
20 drops grapefruit seed extract
Combine all ingredients in a large container. Then, transfer to a spray bottle with a pump. Spray mixture on produce, and rinse thoroughly after 5 to 10 minutes.

*Grapefruit seed extract is available at your local health food store.

** I haven't made this yet, but I plan to!

I use a veggie and fruit wash from Traders's Joe. It's about $4.00 a bottle and last about 4 months or so. It's easy and safe, actually when you use it, has a nice citrus smell. Good Luck in your Search!

I bought a bioclean produce wash at the health food store. It is made of grapefruit seed and lime juice and seems to do a good job. The bottle has lasted a long time, I think it cost about $5.
