I don't have a lot of experience with this yet, so I was actually just perusing for ideas myself, but thought I'd add that my girls also enjoy the national geographic kids website.
I am wondering what are some good kids websites, and more specifically what are good kids only search engines. I have bought a new Mac Book Pro and can lock down the little girls profile to only accept certain websites. I would appreciate any advice you have about a Mac and family friendly websites.
Thank you VERY much everyone. I love this website! The suggestions were great and I really like that I have more control of what they can get to when they hop on the computer. Thankfully that isn't a ton, only about 2 hours a week total for all 4 kids.

My three year old loves pbskids.org, agkidzone(carebears, strawberry shortcake, holly hobby& sushi pack), the mickey mouse site. Just google mickey mouse clubhouse and the site is like www.atvdisney.preschool or something like that.
My husband found uptoten.com a while ago. You can choose which educational games your child should play (although my 6 year old is way too savvy to let us choose anymore) and the games are fun but educational and not scary or PG. The skills can even progress with age. One funny thing, though: it IS a French website, so you can get the whole thing in French if you wish. Some of the songs are very, very atonal and just weird, but it cracks us up--not quite your typical little-kid stuff, but very, very age appropriate.
I let my 8 year old only on pbskids.org and yahookids.com. Pbskids.org is great for learning games from their favorite cartoon characters.
I work at a library, and we have a list of links for kids - Some are better for younger kids, and some for older kids, so you'll want to go through and check them out first to make sure they are appropriate for your child's age (all are kid appropriate, but my thought is if your child is 4 then some links wont be appropriate but will be if s/he is 8 etc).

Might try your local library's website for other links as well - they may have some we do not. :)
My son loves Starfall but he is not yet 3, same for PBS kids.org and Nickjr.com.
For older children, you could try kidzui.com (child safe browser, but in my opinion, quite overwhelming) or Zoodles.com.
Some other good ones are discovery kids, kids.nationalgeographicnasa for kids...
My son loves Starfall. (I think it's starfall.com) and Nickelodeon was a hit for a while. You could also try Disney.
kidsui is a browser and my kids love it but they are older. pbs is good but they can get out of it and click on other things. same with disney or nick. I think you could go to those websites within kidzui.com. I do not have a mac.
