What Causes This?

I have a 14 week old baby girl. For the past few days she has been spitting up often but she has also been acting frequently hungry (she's mostly formula fed). She has started to drool. The spit up is always mixed with formula and saliva. She has been acting rather cranky for the past week. No changes to her formula brand- She's on Enfamil Newborn. She eats around 4.5-5.5 ounces about every 4 hrs, except at night where she will usually go 5 and 1/2 hrs between bottles. She has a BM once a day. Her hands are always in her mouth but she is mostly sucking on them-not chewing or biting. She does use a pacifer. Her gums look normal to me. She has refux and takes Zantac. A week ago I took her for her first dose the Rotovirus vaccine. I thought last week she was going through a growth spurt because she was napping a lot longer than usual (the day before she got the rotovirus vaccine). Now she is only napping for 15-30 minutes at a time even though she is a tired. So what are you mama's thinking? Teething? Reaction to rotovirus vaccine? A long growth spurt? Reflux? Her dose of Zantac was dosed when she was 9 lbs. Now she is 15 lbs.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Ill call the pediatric on Monday. We tried gentlease on two separate occasions but it seemed to always coincide with a mild pink cheek rash so we went back to the newborn formula.

This is her Reflux - I would try a different formula - gentle ease or AR formula would be best - talk to the pedi first, but I am 90% sure that Reflux is the issue.

It is definitely the reflux. Having dealt with premie twins who had this really badly, I became a pro. These are all the classic signs mine would have whenever they were "outgrowing" their doses of meds. The crankiness is from the burning she is having and acting like she is hungry is also from the burning, but they just don't know what's going on so they think maybe they're hungry. Our GI doc is the one who explained this to us. I would say our kids needed adjustment to their dose about every 3-5 months.

My 1st thought is reflux.

It may help if you wear her too. Get one of those baby carriers and carry her on your chest or back. That sometimes helps them with these issues.

I agree that it's most likely reflux. She probably needs a bigger dose of her medication. It used to happen with my kids when they were babies. Call the pedi. They will probbably want you to bring her in for a weight check, and then they will adjust the dose.

My daughter's growth spurts were legendary, so that's my first instinct.

Second, but equally important, has she seen a chiropractor? Gestation and birth are natural, but they're not any easier for the baby than they are for the mama. Chiropractic care helped both of my daughters when they were newborns and young infants.

Teething is what came to my mind. they drool a lot when they are teething. You really need to be asking your ped this question though if you think it is the dosage of her reflux med.
