I have three special needs boys, too, 13, 11 and 6. Two are Aspbergers and the other has multiple emotional impairments. I have them clean up their own rooms, put down their own laundry for me to wash and have them put away their own clean clothes after I've folded it. I also have them clean their hamster cages, fish tank and bird cage. They also clear their own dishes from the table after meals (scraping included) and help me with yard work (pine cone pick up, raking leaves, etc.). They are also capeable (though I don't always make them do it) of taking out the garbage, loading the scraped and rinsed dishes into the dishwasher, putting away the dishes after they are clean, sweeping the kitchen floor and cleaning the bathroom. Anything you set them to do you will of course need to teach them how to properly do it but it can be a big relief once they get the chores right and are able to consistently help. Remember to have a reward ready for them for the completion of their chores, too. I found that goes a long way in getting them to comply. Good luck - S.
