One of my favorite things to do with my 11 month old is just hold him tightly and do some wild dancing. He laughs hysterically and it gives me a good workout. And, it's something my 3 year old can join in on. I also like to help him make music by hitting wooden spoons on tupperware containers and pots (with lids on). Another thing he likes is when I hold his hand, like I am going to guide him with walking, and then walk really fast. His little legs start moving so quickly and he gets a huge kick out of it. I say "Run, run, run, run, run" and he and my 3 year old just crack up.

Try googling "what can I play with an infant"...here is one interesting website that I found when I did it...there were dozens of others!

You can use lots of household items to entertain and stimulate your baby. Do you have an empty cardboard tube ( like from a box of cling wrap or maybe even a roll of gift wrap)...use it to talk to him ( softly!!!) through...he will think it is hilarious!!! Or look at him through it and try to get him to look throught it too. He/She will love anything ...and I do mean ANYTHING that makes noise...banging on a plastic bowl bottom with a spoon, or a pot, just be aware that you will "create a monster"...it is something that he will want to do ALL the time...lol. Hide and seek is a little advanced...but "peek a boo"....which may be what you mean...is great fun for this age. Start by putting a receiving blanket or something else light weight over his head and saying "where's -----" If he doesn't pull it off right away, you pull it off before he becomes frustrated and respond with "peek a boo I see you!!" After he gets the idea, start hiding yourself under the blanket and see if he won't pull it off. Or hide behind a sofa and peek out at him. He will ROLL with laughter!!!
Water or sand, digging in a bowl of uncooked beans or rice to find little things that you have "Hidden" in there all will help to develop sensory skills.
Go to the library..find some childrens records and dance to them!!!
Read stories to him/her and if he/she has a favorite..."act it out" or tell it in some really big imaginary way...you will get a "best actress award" from your baby!!
Most of all, relax, just have fun with him/her. Whatever gains a response from him/her...go with it!!!

Hi S.
So many things to do with a baby almost one year old. Making them up is sometimes fun for you.
I would buy or get blocks(colored or numbered& lettered or both) There is so much learning from them, and talking you can do as you pile them.
"Mommy put the red block on the blue block" etc. Soon you listen and they start talking too. Towers build and baby loves to see it fall. Watch for them to build. Start building horizontally, and see if baby does. That is a big learning curve step. Mine loved puzzles, playdough, and all books at that age and I began doing animal noises, so bought animal books. If you don't mind noise "playing music" with the pots and a wooden spoon is fun. Nursery rhymes are also fun.
If you are really at a loss then go to the library and look at books that talk about what toddlers do. If you can't find them ask the librarian, they love to help.
Hope you get some great ideas.
God bless you

Obviously, at that age, there are many "free" games, just like what you are playing now. Kids love music too, so banging on drums (or even tupperware!) and shaking rattles or bells is a lot of fun at that age. There are also toys to buy like the uplay mat, which actually teaches you to interact with your child and helps them learn language at the same time. It is sold on Amazon... here's a link:

I highly recommend Discovery Toys Measure Up Cups available at www.toysofdiscovery.com. There are loads of games you can play, things to measure, animals to name and arrange in size order, etc. etc. etc.

Great question. Go to your local library with the baby and attend the infant programs - they will lead you in such games and then you can do them at home. At the library they will also have CDs of music. I get tired of talking - but can sing all day - baby just loves to hear mama's voice. You can sing all the nursery rhymes, lullabies and fun dancing songs they have.

Also, check out from the library the board books for babies. Sit your child in your lap, and read one to her/him. Say, "turn the page", put your hand under his, guide him in turning the page, say, "Good job," and keep reading. Ask him one question about what he sees in the page (and answer the question - or if he babbles something, respond, "Yes, you are right. Good job.")

Now that the weather is nice, get to know your parks so they can see other children playing - and you can see other moms. Enjoy.
