I am curious to know what weird foods (or non foods) you have actually eaten. I once tasted snake and that was as weird as I will get.

What can I do next?

Shandell called them Saliditos (don't know if I spelled that right, sorry!), but in Hawaii they call them Li Hing Mui. They soak the plums in salt water (used to be sea water) then dry them. It would be kind of like eating big, salty raisins: sweet and salty.

Octopus. Those little suction cups kept sticking to my teeth. Yuck! I'll try anything once, hence the octopus. When I was pregnant, it was nothing weird. Just Crunchy Cheetos & Watermelon. I went through 4 big bags all by myself, and 6 whole watermelons by myself too!

Thanks for asking the question. It will be interesting to see everyone's answers!

I ate lobster sashimi in Singapore. You don't want to offend your hosts, and everyone else was being a bit rude about it, so I took the first bite - although I did wait till the claws stopped moving. (The shell was on the plate as decoration.) I have also eaten alligator and blood sausage.

I've tried alligator, kangaroo, rocky mountain oysters and loved all of them. I'm pretty adventurous about food. I'll try anything once and usually end up liking it. I also love peanut butter and dill pickle sandwiches. Oddly enough, I never craved anything weird during my pregnancies other than your standard ice cream. Fun question!

Just responding to some of the responses of eating things like soap during pregnancy. This is called 'Pica' and it is a craving of non-nutritional things during pregnancy. Obviously you should NEVER eat these things!! It is a sign of a nutritional deficiency... usually iron. Talk with your doctor or midwife if this is the case with you. :)

Ew! I ate sea snails one time. I didn't know what they were (it was a sea snail salad made by my boss) until after I tried it. After I knew what it was, I could swear I felt them crawling around in my stomach.

What I craved but DIDN'T eat (when I was pregnant with my 3rd son) was Lincoln Logs and Comet cleanser!

I don't normally crave anything, but when I was pregnant with my second I wanted to drink Pine-Sol. Cheer laundry detergent also sounded yummy to eat... and it totally was PICA. I've got severe anemia and it just manifests itself in the weirdest ways! With my first it was normal odd stuff. I normally hate spicy things, but could not get enough hot wings and they were never spicy enough! This is an interesting topic! I've loved reading the responses!

I was in the Philippines for 18months on a mission and I actually wanted to try a local snack as the people called it which is called "balut." I did know what I was getting into. "Balut" is an 18 day old duck egg. Some of the people ate them raw, but I did eat mine boiled. It tasted like an egg, yet people were grossed out because if you break it open you can actually see the chick inside. That was the last time I ate it though. I haven't craved non foods during pregnancy. This is a very interesting question though. Thanks.
