No, I have YET to see my DD eat a Dairy Queen Hunger Buster with cheese!!!!!! I was hopped up on those for a few months!!! At least two a day!!!! Oh, shnikes...I just let the cat out of the bag!!!!!
:)
Do your children love the same foods you craved when you were pregnant? I had the funniest craving when pregnant w/ my daughter, raw tofu w/ sesame oil and soy sauce. I ate, like a block a day or sometimes two. I am not kidding. I didn't hate tofu before, but I certainly didn't like it either. After I was done with pregnancy I didn't ever desire tofu (tasted fine, just didn't want it), but recently I have been eating some, often prepared as I described before. Anyway, I gave my daughter a little bit and she was CRAZY for it. I mean, I may as well handed her a chocolate cake with high fructose corn syrup drizzled on top. The girl ate half a block of raw tofu by herself. One sitting. Caveman style. Anyway, I am wondering, (especially if you were one of those gals who ate pickles covered in peanut butter...just kidding) does your child devour your pregnancy food craving like you did?
That's so funny! I laughed so much reading your responses! I'm imagining these little children eating a bucket of lemon without flinching. Hah ha. Thanks for chipping in folks!

I'd have to say no.
With my first baby, I craved fish and salsa (not together), both of which I previously hated. I ate tons of fruit and sweets.
My daughter, likes fish, but hates salsa. She eats very few fruits, and thinks she likes sweets but won't eat more than a bite or two.
My second pregnancy, I craved onions which I previously really hated. I also ate a lot of meat and not many fruits or veggies.
My son, at age 4, isn't really old enough to give an opinion about onions, but he became a self proclaimed vegetarian at about a year old and I can rarely get him to eat meat of any kind. Fruit, he could eat all day long though.
When I was pregnant I ate avocados like they were going out of style! My son now loves avocados especially in his sandwiches/wraps. Although we eat them in moderation I still love them and so does he.
On the other hand, I also drank chocolate milk every morning too, but my son doesn't like chocolate anything =-)
With my first I ate a lot of cheese & almond butter. My daughter from that pregnancy absolutely loves both!
My youngest is too young still to really tell but with my 2 older boys this is totally true! With my oldest I craved and ate a ton of tomatoes, red onions and cucumbers with oil and vinegar or rice vinegar and to this day he LOVES all of these, especially tomatoes and onions... With my youngest son, I had way low iron and craved red meat...and he is a total meat eater!
Whenever we go out to eat, I always get chuckles and sometimes straight up comments about how cool it is to see kids eat the way mine do...the waiters just can't help themselves when my 6 yr old son orders a salad with oil & vinegar dressing and my 4 yr old orders a steak...medium-rare, please!
I didn't have much cravings, but there might be some truth to your statement, because with my first son, I ate perfectlly healthy food, and he is the same way (its in his system) loves salads, fruits, nuts, etc..and I ate lousy with my 2nd, more salty foods, and that's all he wants...he doesn't like sweet stuff...at least for now.
With my first, I drank a big glass of chocolate milk almost every morning. My son (firstborn) has always been a HUGE milk drinker. He has NEVER stopped drinking it. LOVES it.
With my 2nd, the only thing I can think of that I had an unusual amount of, is probably Cheetos. (was very nauseous the ENTIRE pregnancy and small salty snacks went a LONG way to fighting that battle). My daughter LOVES Cheetos. Now I know, most kids like milk and cheetos. lol. But given any choice of snack chips, my daughter would choose the Cheetos every time. My son won't. Given a choice between a cold glass of milk and a soda, my son (who is 12 now) will 99 times out of 100, choose the milk, not the soda.
I also ate a lot healthier with my first, as I only had to take care of ME, and my husband helped! With our 2nd, I had a 2 yr old boy running around all day, and I ate more junky food and less healthy. My firstborn has a HUGE and varied palate of foods that he likes (including tuna and salmon starting around 5 years old!). My daughter (2nd born) is a very picky eater, and tends toward junk food way more than her older brother does.
So, do these count?
I guess the three things I remember SPECIFICALLY craving during pregnancy were orange juice, peanut butter, and eggs. Not really weird things, but just the smell of them would make me start drooling with hunger. I could've eaten them everyday at every meal. Our little girl does love eggs; I mean, she could eat her weight in them. She likes OJ and peanut butter too, but not like the eggs...I guess I always just thought most toddlers loved eggs--they're soft and usually buttery...
I drank peach nectar by the gallon and my daughter will eat anything peach flavored. She also LOVES garlic, which was in just about everything I ate while I was pregnant.
ROFL... I'm going to treasure the phrase "caveman style" for awhile.
My cravings though... kiddo HATES the foods I was dying for. No saurkraut or avacado for him. Although he IS rather nuts about cabbage (and broccoli), he won't eat *anything* that's been pickled.
Both of my kids craved/loved (and still do to this day...they are now 32 & 30!) the foods that I craved and loved when pregnant with them. My first pregnancy I craved anything that had a tomato based sauce (pizza, lasagna, spaghetti, etc.) and my son has always loved those things. My second pregnancy I craved fresh fruits and vegetables and my daughter is crazy about those and always has been, so I do think there is something to the pregnancy cravings being the same things the child loves.
Well I just wanted to comment on the tofu itself....this is one of the worst things you could possibly eat. If you buy into what the media has said, tofu, soybeans, all of that is healthy -- WRONG !!! Not the case at all. Please do not give your daughter any more of it (even if she likes it), read the ton of articles here that will tell you the truth about soy (no more soy milk, tofu, any of it) the only type that would be o.k. is fermented soy. It's funny because my mom always said us kids loved what she ate during her individual pregnancies. With me she ate a ton of dairy and peanut butter, which is exactly what I love. With my baby I was sick the entire time but craved vanilla milkshakes and steak.
They had to be real ice cream shakes though, not soft serve (I liked carl's jr or baskin robbins). The steak had to be medium to medium rare. Wouldn't ya know it my baby loves ice cream and will eat a ton of beef (she doesn't like chicken).
We recently went out for dinner and my boyfriend ordered steak, she didn't want her mac n cheese, she was eyeing his plate the whole time! LOL. (I should mention I liked them together...eat a steak for dinner and get a shake on the way home). I was never much for steak before I got pregnant, but I stil enjoy them on occasion now. =) Great post!
Raspberries - a whole flat at a time!
With my daughter it was marshmellows and strawberry milk (several times a day if I could). She loves strawberry milk and marshmellows, but what kids doesn't, right?
With my son it was marshmellows and anything dark chocolate. He too loves marshmellows, but he isn't much of a chocolate monster. We will seriously take a bite size chocolate bar and leave half on the table...
So, I am not sure about this thoery, but then again I didn't have the strangest of cravings either. :)
I ate close to about 4lbs of bananas a week when I was preggers and my daughter who'll be 3 in Oct. looooooves them!
With my first, all I ate was eggs. It's her fav. food and has been for almost 9 years now! :)
Yup. When I was pregnant I had a huge thing for anything blueberry (muffins in particular) and now my son will polish off a carton of blueberries in one sitting! (He's 13 months and has been this way since we gave them to him around 9 months.)
Wow! So true! I ate very healthy with my first but occasionally I had doritos with cream cheese dip. My son loves it! I also could not eat mustard or maple syrup while pregnant. The entire pregnancy! I would be sick just from the smell and he won't eat either of them. My youngest I craved pizza. Uncontrollably! The first time I gave my youngest pizza he was a little pizza eating machine. It was only a certain Italian pizza from a certain restaurant too. He loves it!
Not for me and my kiddos, but my mom LOVED Dr. Pepper when she was pregnant with me, and now it's my favorite soda.
I needed fresh fruit like a fish needs water when I was pregnant with my oldest. He is such a fruit and carbs boy that it makes it pretty easy to feed him... or at least know what he is inclined to eat!
With my second, I ate spicier food, Mexican, and would often make myself a dip of salsa, avocado, black beans, and cilantro. Ate that with tortilla chips for supper. My youngest LOVES that, and he likes spicier food than anyone else in the family!
Your question really made me laugh!! Then I reflected a bit. I didn't have any cravings really, but I did make myself a smoothie every morning before work. It was a fast, healthy breakfast. I used all kinds of frozen fruit (whatever sounded good that day) and milk, and added different things like flax seed, wheat germ, honey, chocolate syrup, peanut butter, dark chocolate pieces (those last three especially good with bananas!), and/or yogurt. My son LOVES fruit. Then again, many people like fruit so I don't know if it is because I ate it all the time while pregnant. It would be easier if it were something unusual like chocolate covered meatballs or pickled peaches. :)
I craved anything sour!! Sour Patch kids, pickles, Vinegar and salt chips, war-head candy, sour skittles, sour punch straws, pink lemonade, and orange juice. My 5 year old daughter loves all of these. She can eat anything sour without even making a face or gagging! Too funny!
Yes! I totally craved sour with both of my pregnancies! I would drink the lemon juice straight from the bottle. Now both of my boys love sour and will actually ask for a small glass of lemon juice on occasion.
Fyi, it is not really safe to eat raw tofu. At a minimum, you need to at least steam it for a few minutes.
Yes, I had a Jamba Juice Razzamataz and Pirates Booty on the train home from work every afternoon when I was pregnant with my first child. He is now ten and he still loves Pirates Booty (more than my other two children who did not experience the same snack each afternoon.
My best friend craved Avocado's when she was pregnant with her daughter. F can't get enough Avocado's now and mom rarely eats them.
With her son she could not eat anything that had pickles on it, her son gags when he bites into a pickle...LOL.
When I was pregnant with my daughter I loved lemons! She is almost 2 and she loves them too. :)
Some yes and some no lol. Like I craved Taco Bell like crazy, but when we went out there not to long ago my oldest wrinkled up her nose and wouldnt touch it! I also liked mustard, but she perfers BBQ sauce on everything. However, She LOVES Pickles and that was one thing I could devour while pregnant. I mean she will eat a whole jar over cake! My youngest is still a little young to try salsa (the hot one) so I am not sure about that, but she absolutly LOVES Lettuse... I made a salad daily with Italian dressing and though she is only 10 months that girl will eat a salad over fruit lol!
i ate cheesecake. i ate feta cheese. i mean i started my morning with italian bread, feta and tomatoes. finished with a slice of cheesecake. my kids don't like either.
With my first I craved salad, she loves salad. Aslo I did not like cake when I was prego only brownies. She hates cake, so for her bdays I have to bake her a pan of brownies for her cake!
I loved salsa and chips while I was prego. My son at 2 was eating salsa and chips. The spicy salsa didnt even bother him. He loves spicy food.
My daughter is the total opposite of my food cravings! I was very sick for the entire time, but the worst was even the throught of red meat. I am usually a total carnivore! We couldn't even have hamburger in the house, because thinking about it sent me running the the bathroom. I ate at least one or two bowels of ice cream a day it was all I wanted and all I could keep down.
My daughter hates hates hates ice cream and will let me get one bite on her lips and she spits it out, but at 18 months she can polish off an entire cheeseburger without flinching. She also loves steak and groundbeef (like tacos).
I thought that the two must correlate also - I craved ketchup, ranch dressing and chicken teriyaki with my first and he, of course, loves all of that.
With my second it was gummy candy like sour patch kids and those gummy fruit shaped candies, and SUSHI! I didn't actually eat anything raw because I didn't want to take any chances, but I would seriously eat California rolls 3 times a week. This son of course likes candy, but no way will he eat sushi of any sort.
With my daughter the weird thing was what I didn't want. I had a hard time stomaching vegetables. Usually I eat a ton of vegetables, partly for my health and partly just because I like them. That whole pregnancy I didn't really want any type of vegetable, but I especially detested carrots. I vividly remember that the week after she was born I ate a 1 poound bag of baby carrots every day for a month. It was like my body had missed that nutrition. My daughter is like I am normally about vegetables. Loves carrots, brocolli, peppers, etc... Cravings are a crazy thing.
Yes! :o) My son LOVES lemons! When I was pregnant, I ate a bowl of lemon slices at a restaurant. I also remember sending my husband to the store to bring back a dark chocolate dove bar and a lemon...which I ate at the same time! Now, my son can eat an entire lemon without flinching! Great question!
