So I was just wondering if any of you out there has noticed that foods you ate a LOT of during pregnancy is one of your child favourite things?

During my 3rd pregnancy I ate and ate hummus , I still do actually , but my daughter also cannot get enough of it , she will sit with the tub and scoop it out on her fingers!! I am convinced that they get a taste for these things in utero.

Any one else have similar stories??

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Just wanted to say what prompted me to ask this question , I was sat watching "said" child eat her lunch and she also had with her the tub of hummus and she was just sticking her fingers in and devouring , there was about 1/4 of a tub left and she finished it off!

Kelly S , I was the same with olives , I LOVED them until I was pregnant with #3 and I could no longer even look at them , even now 2 yrs later and can't stand the smell of them!

Strawberries. I couldn't get enough. Not only does my daughter love strawberries, she was born with a huge strawberry birthmark on top of her head. I kept a hat on her until her hair finally grew in to hide it when she was over a year old!

That's really funny about the hummus - we have the same situation over here!!! Every night with dinner my daughter eats carrots with hummus. She dips the carrots in until they are literally lost in the hummus, and then she digs around to find them. My older daughter can't stand watching her little sister do this. When she takes them out it doesn't even look like there's even a carrot there at all!! I ate a ton of hummus while pregnant with her, but usually with pretzels. I'm glad she likes it with carrots better :)

I went nuts for pineapple...and DD loves pineapple, but she also likes all kinds of fruit - it's not like she likes pineapple above all else, so who knows?

I ate cereal and peanut butter the entire time I was pregnant - it was insane! If I sit and think about it, I can still recall those cravings - how strong they were! The 1st time I gave my son PB, his eyes got all wide and his expression was like, "Wow, where have you been hiding this stuff!" (he didn't get PB until a year just to be sure of allergies). Since he had no allergy and clearly loved PB, we started giving him PB&J sandwiches - then he started telling me "No jelly" so we went to PB sandwiches - then I noticed he was covering his face in PB b/c he was licking it off of the bread. Now he asks for PB "in a cup" and sits with a spoon - happy as can be! BTW, I had an aversion to meat while PG with him and he is just now, at 2, starting to eat a little bit of turkey or chicken - still no red meat.

With my first I ate a lot of fluffy white rice with ketchup towards the end. He loves my white rice more than my other two. Third one loves salami, cheese and crackers, pizza which I ate a lot of. Middle one lives on chicken dinos and I can't figure that one out.

I craved mint chocolate chip ice cream with my first and he loves it too! My second is too young to see (10 months). I am about 7 weeks along with my 3rd and a few months ago, I really started liking hummus. I can't stand the smell of it now, but my husband will scarf down a 32oz tub of it in a week! Maybe the baby will pick up on hubbies craving for hummus! He feeds our 10 mo hummus and he loves it!! :)

This happened to me with my first daughter. I was very, very sick in my first three months and, oddly enough, the little nutrition I got came from grilled cheese. It's all I could tolerate. Today, at 25, it's still one of her favorites. Along that same line, she is now pregnant with my first grandchild. Six years ago, when I had her baby brother, the only thing I could eat for almost five months was waffles and jelly. I laugh every time I see her wake up in the morning, stumble to the kitchen, and pop in two waffles that she slathers with jelly when they pop out of the toaster.

I could not get enough fruit. It was ambrosia! However this did not affect my son's tastes - he only eats pears and apples and I have to insist.

nope. i craved chinese food with #1 but we couldn't afford it, so i can't say whether it would have happened or not. my elder isn't particularly fond of it, although he'll eat it sometimes. i couldn't get enough blackberries with #2 (dh would stop at a fruit stand on the way home from work every other day to keep me supplied) but child cannot stand them. says they're 'too seedy.'

I ate tons of stuff like queso, salsa, and alfredo when I was pregnant with my son. Now he loves the stuff and can't have enough of it. Give him chips, salsa and some queso and he will go to town! Doesn't even matter how spicy it is and he's soon to be 4. So I understand and I think it has to do with what we ate while they were in utero.

I ate peanut butter and jelly sandwiches EVERY SINGLE DAY of my first pregnancy and a whole bunch with my second. Both my boys love peanut butter.
With this pregnancy (34 weeks along) I have had cottage cheese with almonds almost every day. It will be interesting to see if she loves it too.

I do not have one my son likes but dislikes - early on when I found I was pregnant I totally cut caffeine out of my diet (I do not just mean coffee and soda) but also chocolate. My son can not stand chocolate, he will spit it out if it even touches his lips - I have always wondered if there is a connection?

Yes!

Oldest: tomatos, cucumber, onions and vinegar and salt! He loves all 3 and eats most like me, ALL veggies and we cant live without all of the above!

Middle: Cow! Red bloody meat! Oh my goodness, did I crave a nice rare steak...was my strongest craving by far (I needed and took iron supplements w/all 3 but especially 2nd son) and my boy is ALL about the MEAT!

Youngest: Chocolate! I ate a bowl of Cocoa Krispies every night before I went to bed for about 3 straight months! ~This one is the weakest I think, because who doesn't like chocolate? I mean C'mon now? :)

Funny enough, when I was pregnant with my daughter I ate a ton of pancakes and cheeseburgers. She doesn't really like either. HAHAHA :) I guess I overdid it when she was in utero! :)

With my first two I had to have fried chicken and rolls- pretty funny because when I got pregnant with #1- I was a vegetarian (not any more!) With all of them(except this one) I had to have pickled beets- I usually don't like them. With this one- nothing much looks good to me, but I will get times where I am eating plain peanut butter sandwiches for a week- that's all I want.
Great question!

Ranch dressing. I put it on everything from pizza, fries, chicken, steak, chips, you name it. I ate it almost every day when I was pregnant with my DS. He is now 21 months old and has to dip everything in ranch too. He will sit in his high chair and point to the fridge until someone brings him ranch. Last night he even drank the ranch from the ranch container. I dont even go that far lol.
