I have recently been placed on the depo shot beucase of the fact that i havent stopped bleeding since March 07. The bleeding stopped thank god. My thing is, is that within the next 3 months i have to have a ful dose of the shot each month, if i understood it completely that means i will have enough to actually last one year of doses. I have never had the depo and to be honest i am terrified that i will never be able to have any more kids after this. Has any one gone throguh this?

What can I do next?

I starting taking the depo shot in October of 2004 after the birth of my daughter. The nurse told me that it would take a year for me to get pregnant again. I took the shot intill March of 2005. I didn't have one period the whole time I was on the shot. I finally got pregnant in July of 2007 and then had a miscarriage in August of 2007. I got pregnant again in this month and had another miscarriage. That shot has screwed up my system so bad. I know every woman is different and they have a different reaction to the shot. I so wish I wouldn't have taken the shot. I think it is the reason I haven't had a normal pregnancy. I would advise you to quit taking it.

I have not had the depo shot but have had a couple of friends who have tried it. They were able to have children but both gained over 30-40 pounds while on the shot. I've heard this with others too who chose not to have other children but they also gained alot of weight while on the shot. And after getting off of the depo shot, they were able to get their weight back under control. My advice is to be careful with the gaining of the weight while on the depo. Good luck!

I started taking the Depo shot after my last child was born in 2004. I was on it for about a year, and am currently pregnant again (with no problem in trying to concieve). My periods completely stopped while I was on the shot. My pre-pregnancy weight was around 120, and since my daughter was born and I started the shot, I have stuck around 155. I don't pinpoint all of that on the shot, but I do think that some of it is attributed to the shot. I also had a lot of mood swings and depression while on it, which I was told could be a side effect, but again, I had 3 kids (4 if you count the husband!!!), so at times that probably also played a part in it. I personally do not know of anyone who is unable to concieve aafter taking the shot, but that's not to say it's not possible. Personally, I think that it is worth trying for awhile to see how it works for you. I only went in once every three months to get the shot, and it beat tying to remember a pill every day.

My daughter went on the depo shot after the birth of her son and remained on it for five years (the amount of time her doc recomended)...When she came off the shot, she went to an ordinary bc pill for about a year. Much to our suprise, she became pregnant while on the pill!! So, to answer your question, for my daughter, it was possible to get pregnant after the depo shot.

I have been on and off of the depo shot over the last 8 years, I have heard good and bad about it. I have been off of it since June 07 and have yet to have a period. I heard it can get your system really out of whack and can take a while to have kids once you've been off of it, but I really don't think it can affect your ability to have kids.
On the other side my sister had problems with getting her period under control and bled for many months straight, they were able to put her on the pill to regulate it out, is this something that you considered? I would think the pill is safer overall then the shot. Hope this helps, and good luck :-)

Hi J.,
I used the depo shot after my 1st and 2nd child. I had no problems with getting pregnant with my 2nd or 3rd child. My only problem was I had a 10 pound weight gain. It usually takes anywhere from 3 to 12 months for your body to regulate again after discontinuing the shot, depending on how long you've been on it. I loved it, it was so much easier than the pills. After my 3rd child, I elected to have a tubal ligation, so no need for another depo shot. If and when you decide to have another baby, give yourself atleast 3 months of regular periods to be sure the depo shot is out of your system. Best of luck to you! Hope this helps a little.
