Hi there, I am doing a project for my course and am trying to find out what shapes and colours I would put into a book to increase learning skills. What do your kids know and at what age? Please help :-) Yours Faithfully S. :-)

Hi S.
I used to teach preschool 3 year old class, all those kids were willing to learn anything that was placed in front of them. Primary colors, and all shapes including trapezoids.
Enjoy your course and may God bless your new venture.

They should know the rainbow colors (the basic ones) and they should know circle, square, triangle, rectangle shapes. Singing songs and using puzzles or flashcards are a great way to reinforce concepts and to motivate little ones.

i beleive by age 2.5 they should know their basic colors like blue red yellow white. but really depends on the child and how much the parent, educator puts into helping the kids learn as well.

Hi my daughter Riley will be 2 years old this month. She knows the basic colors and shapes including ones like diamond, oval, and octogon. She can also recognize numbers to 10 and most letters. She loves books with animals the most! Hope this helps.

As many as they want to. So many times parents and teachers underestimate the ablities of young minds. Chilren really are like sponges, which is why a lot of schools are starting second languages in the elementary schools. Children feel proud of them selves when they are praised and learn new concepts. The best things to start with are the things they see everyday in their environments, because it's easier for them to identify with. A simple 8 pack crayon box is great to start with for colors. You can have them shout out colors to color a class mascot. Have them hunt for shapes in the classroom, but you must start them out so they know what they are looking for. You text book should show you what the requirements are for kindergarten, so you know what is needed. You can go beyond once they know what they need to know.
