Have you read her diary?
You should also read "Night" by Elie Wiesel
She died in March 1945 from Typhus.
Does your daughter have a project due on her? I am surprised you can't find anything. My son did a project on her...had a TON of hits.
Go to the library borrow the book "The Diary of Anne Frank" and you will learn a lot. Her family was captured by the Nazis and taken to the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp - which is in Northern Germany, north of Berlin.
Typhus. It was brought on by bacteria found on lice, ticks and other human skin diseases due to the horrid conditions of the concentration camps.
I didn't realize she died of a disease in the camp. I had assumed she was murdered in the camp. Personally, even though it was disease, I would still consider it manslaughter. Very tragic.
Typhus was very common among those in the camps and others who had gone into hiding. During the summer months, it became incredibly hot and the lice and tics came out. With everyone in such close quarters and unable to stay clean, the lice just spread between them all and infected everyone with the disease.
I just finished a great book called Clara's War: One Girl's Story of Survival. It's written by a survivor and, like the Diary of Anne Frank, tells of the horrible conditions and the strength of character of Jews. It's a great book. Not intended for children, so definitely read it yourself before deciding if your daughter is ready for it.
She had scabies but died of typhus.
