What to Do with Christening Gown?

My two daughters both wore the same Christening gown. They are now small children. What should I do with it now? I have heard of remaking it into a veil when the time comes. Has anyone done this? Or what do I do with it? I don't want to sell it.

Right now it's just in a dry cleaners bag and "stored" in our house.

Would love some suggestions.

What can I do next?

I received a gown at my baby shower for my first child in 2000. All 4 of my children (3 girls & 1 boy) have worn it...my son being the most recent just last month. I had each of their names and birthdates embroidered (in pink for the girls and blue for the boy) on the bottom of the slip that came with it. I have plans to have it sealed up (we are done having children) and save it for when my children start having children. My hope is that it will become the family heirloom that I never had. I also chose to use the different color thread in hopes that the tradition will continue for generations and it will be easy to identify gender, since we've chosen gender neutral names. I actually got the idea from a friend and her family (her kids are the 4th generation to use it.) uses white thread.

My SIL has one which is a family heirloom. Its made out of parachute silk used to support the resistance in WWII. Its been used for 50+ christenings. Each infant's name and DOB are embroidered into this gown. Our nephew was the most recent.

You can have it framed. It looks great and your daughters will love to see it hanging in the house. You can combine this idea with the embroidered one.

I do machine embroidery, and someone just asked me that very question.
We decided to embroider on the underskirt the baby's name and date of the event (or birthday) in a pastel color. It made a very nice keepsake that can still be loaned to another family member.

We had ours cleaned professionally and boxed up. It is rather expensive, the box alone was $25 but it is sealed and doesn't turn yellow. Then when your little ones have little ones they can swap it around and use it again. Ours has done 2 generations now.

My mother kept mine until I was an adult. Since I had no intention of christening my children, I gave it away to friend for her baby. If it's a high quality gown I think it's a great idea to keep it and let your children decide what to do with it.
