Try my potato chowder, a ham bone flavoring in it for a while would be yummy:

I always make split pea or 15 bean soup with my holiday ham bone, but would like something different. What other soups can I make with a ham bone? Something brothy, not beany! It has gotten "cold" here and I could really use a big pot of soup!

How bout posole? It is White Hominy, pork (I usually use boneless pork ribs but hambone would work just as well), season to taste with cayanne pepper, garlic salt and pepper. Just put it all in a crock pot and cook on low for 8 hrs. This is one of my favorite winter meals.
how about potato? that little bit of salty, smokey flavor would be a good background note.
Cheesy Ham n Potato?
I'm a make it up as I go along kind of cook, not a follow a recipe person. I'd cook the hambone for a while in some chicken broth and water to get all the goodness out. Cook the potatoes (and maybe some onions and garlic? And what else is in the fridge or freezer that would be good? Maybe some broccoli or peas for color?) in that. Then add some milk or cream or half-n-half and some cheese (Velveeta or American melt really nice, sharp cheddar adds a lot of flavor, what do you have in the fridge that needs used?) If you want it thicker add some instant mashed poatoes at the very end......
we always put ours in blackeye peas and makes them even more yummy, especially served w/cornbread! Yumm! Hope this helps.
Use it to flavor some split pea and ham soup. Buy the split peas dry, soak them over night, rinse and cook in vegetable broth and the ham bone. Also throw in some chopped ham and other vegetables like celery, carrots, onions, garlic. You could probably use a seasoning packet too.
you can make vegi soup and put the ham in to make the broth flavorful
I have a great recipe my mom used to make for cabbage and ham soup. Let me know if you want the recipe!
