Hi everybody! I'm currently working on a fiction/fantasy novel, and I need help with a name for one of the girls!
She is in her late teens/early 20's. She has long, flowing, dark brown hair, and amber colored eyes. She is pale, lithe, and incredibly pretty. She is of medium height. She is incredibly smart (actually a certified genius), and is very analytical. She is also very skilled in combat. Her mother died when she was young, and she lives with her father, who is extremely weathly. In my novel, her family is in a leadership position.
Overall, she is smart, a bit intimidating, but very kind and helpful. She does not let her wealth get to her head, and is very generous. She is quiet and calculating, often over-analyzing situations. She is very mature for her age, and is often the voice of reason among her group of friends. She can, however, be a bit stubborn. She is a fantastic friend, and a good listener. Like I said before, she is in a leadership position in the community, but she is often not taken seriously because she is female. This is often the source of most of her frustration. Although she is generally kind and selfless, she has a biting, sarcastic sense of humor, and often unintentionally hurts peoples feelings.
I'm looking for a name that suits this girl. Please leave any suggestions down below! Also, if you could try to find names with meanings that pertain to this character, that would be very helpful! Thanks!
ETA This book is set in the 21st century!

Don't know why, but the first name that popped into my head was "Agatha". I've never known one, but that was my first thought.
K..
Yes it's my name and I believe it suits this character perfectly. Sounds like you were writing about me for a minute there LOL.
No esteem issues here. LOL
Other than K., I've got nothin. Good luck with choosing.
Why don't you name her after yourself? L. .. short for elizabeth? You know one of the strongest and heroic women characters in literature is Elizabeth Bennet from Pride and Prejudice (in the book her family calls her Lizzy). Good luck on your story.
Your character reminds me of a friend of mine Darcy, down to not being taken seriously as a woman. Not too sure on a the best name, but my biggest pet peeve when reading is coming across a name I can't pronounce.
Arlette, means Eagle. Eagle= brilliant, smart, calculating, and quiet!
lorelie and call her rory
sorry for some reason i thought of gilmore girls=)
Octavia popped in my head. It sounds strong but feminine to me.
Amelia, Emma, Olivia, Violet, Scarlett. Also, what about Nadia? It's unique but kind of cool, don't ya think? You'll have to tell us what your book is called so we can all read it...
Astrid (means beautiful)
Imogen nn Immie (means beloved child)
Agnes (means Pure)
Daisy
Matilda (means battle ready) could nn Mattie or Tilly
Phoebe (means shining and bright)
Everly nn Ever
I still like Denise. ;-)
Not too obscure, strong, pretty, mature sounding...
Ninia - from Ninon ... Ninon de Lenclos was a 17th-century aristocrat and Parisian belle famous for her wit and beauty. [2]
Sage - wise
Daira ... "Knowing, informed." [3]
I used http://www.thinkbabynames.com to look around :)
I'm thinking of names that mean Brave....because she is motherless and it is very hard for a girl to go through life without a mother.
Brave female names:
Althea
Audrey
Baldwin
Bernadette
Briana
Bridget
Drusilla
Imara
Isa
Keren
Marcella
Matilda
Maude
Neima
Pilar
Rainey
Rita
Valencia
Valeria
Valerie
Zaila
And Oprah comes to mind, but the spelling her own mother meant: Orpah. Which also has that orphan look to it.
I wish you had told us what era this book was set in?
The first name to pop in my head was Ellie.
I also have always loved the names: Tru and Ainsley.
If her eyes are amber, then Amber might be a good name for her.
I like Amanda or Mandy - there's something plucky about that name.
Sara(h) is good.
Samantha isn't bad.
My first thought was Amanda too.
some other names I like are:
Phoenix
Echo
Olivia
Ava
Eden
Please let us know what name you go with ~ sounds like a good book!
Your character sounds a bit like my daughter but she has crazy culy hair the color of straw. She also has HUGE blue eyes. So in appearance she is different but possesses many of the other qualities. Her name is Amina and it means faithful in Arabic.
My name is Z. pronounced to rhyme with China but is usually pronounced Zayna and it means beautiful in Arabic. The only reason I suggest my name is because it is a major conversation starter as people always call me Zeena and then say, "Oh, like the warrior princess!" When I explain that I am Lebanese most people think I am joking since I have blue eyes and freckles!
I also like Elaura (from some Disney cartoon), and, Fairuza (means turquoise in Arabic and Farsi).
Cecelia
Samantha
Alex (short for Alexandra)
Savannah
Tory (short for Victoria)
Jenna
Interesting question that some Authours refrain from.
As long as you remember to give credit to the lucky individual(s) that assisted you, this can be your breakthrough, and have a fanbase ready made. :)
Sounds interesting. Let us know when you're ready to share it with us!
I'd go with Alexis. There's been a powerful woman or two with that name...;p
Luck to you!
I thought Amber before I even got to her eye color, funny. I also thought Keera (interesting spelling and unusual but don't know about meaning) and Nathalie because my daughter is mature for her age, generous and stubborn as only a Scorpio can be. Good luck with the book. Let us know when we can read it.
jadzia - pronouned jod-zee-ah it's a polish name meaning battle; female warrior
Rian. I'm not sure why. First thing that popped in my head.
Kitania
Katarina
Celeste
Casaundra
Good luck with the book! This character sounds very interesting!
Cyrene (pronounced Serene). Google it - it is the name of a mythological girl who saved her father from a lion.
Jane. It's timeless. The name is outwardly plain, but hides a complex person. I think a lot of authors get too fancy with their female names. Keep it real. :)
Funny - sounds alot like me, especially about 10 yrs ago!!
but my eyes are green ;)
Mom died when I was young, raised by dad with money (business Owner)and hunting and boats and 4-wheelers. Smart, wise beyong years etc, often the voice of reason among OLDER friends. Stubborn Taurus and Very Sarcastic!
Oh - and I like Vivian!!!!
Since her family is of great wealth and leadership, any name you choose for her should reflect her heritage. What is her nationality? I'm assuming she lives in the US now, but where did her family immigrate from? Any family of inherited wealth would have traditions of passing down family names.
I would choose a name that is classic, tied in with her nationality and the time of her birth. Maybe even after a grandparent or something. Here is a web site you may find useful.

Good luck. She sounds like a fascinating character and I hope to read about her one day :)
Eve
Lilith
Elizabeth -- dad calls her Lizzy and she hates the nickname.
Patience

"Devi"
http://www.thinkbabynames.com/search/0/strength From this list, I like:
"Audra", "Lenna", "Melisande" (with a nickname of "Lis").
http://www.thinkbabynames.com/search/0/guard & my absolute favorite:
"Neda". Here's the definition: Neda ... a nickname for Edward (Old English) "wealthy guard". To me, this is the epitome of your heroine! & perfect for the time period.
Best wishes.....& I hope to read your novel!
