I was just wondering we have had cold for going on 2 weeks now. I know I should take something, we are doing juice water lots of water and smart water. I was wondering when most people start the probiotic, it isnt something I take all the time but just curious what you others do out there.

I also wanted to give it to my daughter too who is 3.. any suggestions, I can go to the chiro and get it, or go to target what is the difference what have you tried and liked.

I also have heard that people just eat yogurt as well but that was after they took antibiotics...

Thanks for your help

I take mine first thing in the morning on an empty stomach. I take Shaklee's Optiflora. It is guaranteed to deliver the most good bacteria and does not have to be refrigerated.

I take a probiotic everyday all year long. You can start now. You can also get probiotics at Vitamin World. They would be able to tell you which one to get for your 3 yo.

I take one daily and give my kids a powdered one that I add to their milk/juice. It also has vitamin D in it. They are 3 and 4. Both purchased at Vitamin Cottage.

Check out Drmercola. com << lots of articles on there as to how , when and IF you should take a probiotic. Additionally, his site does have them for kids.. (no affiliation) just letting you know.. I would suggest that maybe the juice and smart water is not doing you any good.. stick with pure water.. This way, your body can get better without also having to deal with all the sugar (whether natural or not) .... Could it also be that you have a sinus infection in addition to the cold and you may not be aware of that? For me , cold equal sinus infection and vice versa.. good to luck

My daughter had a couple ear infections between the age of one and two and was put on an antibiotic. It would make her bottom very raw after a few days, so I was concerned what it would look like after 10 days. The doctor's nurse suggested giving her culturelle once per day. It is in capsule form so I just loosened it and poured the powder in her water and mixed it that way. It really seemed to help her a lot. I believe you can take probiotics as part of a daily regimen, but we only use it if taking antibiotics. We do eat a lot of yogurt in our diet. I swear by it for its medicinal purposes because I used to get frequent bacterial infections, but haven't had one in years. I truly believe it is because of the active cultures in the yogurt that keeps my ph levels in balance. Hope this helps and you feel better soon!

I take Florajen-3 two hours after eating and one hour before eating - as recommended by my doctor. Probiotics are safe.

You can take them at any time. My son has had some issues (C-dif) in the past so we give him 2 chewable tablets every morning. They do have a kids brand at Target that I think was near the vitamins. I guess I don't understand what the probiotic has to do with your cold though? Are you going on antibiotics for the cold? Then I get it.

To get the most effective probiotic, it needs to be live.....get them at a whole food store in the refrigerated section. I would not buy them at Target....you''ll be wasting your money. Also, most of the time you take them after an antiobiotic, but you can take them daily as it does help with you immune system. I would recommend something to boost your immune system such as Airborne. If we are fighting something, I take 4 -6 does a day and my kids take 2-4 and they are ages 8, 5, and 2. Do not let them drink juice.....Sugar depresses the immune system and medications can actually make your illness last longer as they make the liver and kidneys work harder. Last but not least, I have been a chiropractor for the past 21 years. Good luck

Probiotics are intended to replace good bactiria in your gut not to help with a cold unless you have been on an antibiotic for your cold I would not take a probiotic. if your goal is to get rid of this cold faster I would increase your vitamin c intake along with some zinc.
