I got my 6 year old deodorant a couple months ago. I think the age will vary depending upon the body chemistry. There are some nice travel size deodorants that are GREAT for that age.
Make it a GREAT day!

SO my almost 8 year old daughter the other night had some stinky pits! I went to kiss her goodnight and she had a tanktop type jammies on and her pits actually smelled. I was totally blown away. She happened to not have taken a shower that night but I was so surprised she is already at an age she needed deoderant! Isn't she too young? Does she just need showers every single night? Do they make deoderant for younger kids? UGH! This means puberty is looming......oh goodness!

Hi D.,
My girls' pediatrician recommended occassional use only of deoderant for my 9 year old because of the aluminum and other chemicals in it. We have increased her bathing as well and made her aware of the issue so she can clean up when necessary. But when she is going to be really active or it is a really hot day, then she wears it.
I am going to look into a more natural product as well as another mom mentioned.
Take care,
B.
I think the best alternative to using any commercial sort of product would be either a little spray bottle with a good solution of Grapefruitseed extract or just a drop or two applied after the bath or shower & it also helps to keep down or eliminate underarm stains in clothing too. (I prefer the "Original GSE") Have been using this for likely 10 years now quite happily & believe me I used to have scarey pits, if I wasn't very careful. To me the next best alternative would be those crystals (although I think they too may contain aluminum).
GSE has a whole range of excellent applications, I wouldn't be without it!
Kids are going through puberty earlier and earlier. All the hormones that are put into our food have a lot to do with it. My son is only 14 and has a chest that is more hairy than his father. I would just get your daughter some teen spirit deodorant and I am sure she will like the pretty perfume scent.
I was informed by my oldest daughter's kindergarten teacher this year that she had some body odor and she wanted to let my husband and I know before my daughter or any of her classmates started noticing. We spoke with her pediatrician and have had her really start to wash under her arms during her baths, as well as everywhere else. We also got her some deodorant without aluminum in it per our pediatrician. We still need to remind her daily to use it, but we just told her when she turned 6 that since she is becoming such a big girl, her body is changing and she needs to take care of it more like a big girl does. She actually thinks it is pretty grown up to use it and feels pretty special. It seems kids grow up faster and faster these days. Good luck!
My daughter started using deodorant around 9. She had stinky pits as well. She started wearing a bra when she was 10. Ugh. Here it comes!!! Brace yourself. Puberty is around the corner. My daughter uses teen spirit. I don't think there is a pre-teen spirit, but you never know. With girls maturing younger and younger, that might be a new marketing target.
The funny thing is now my son who is 9 started wearing deodorant when he was 7 because he thought it was cool.
