Where Do I Shop for Tall Slender Kid

Hi,

I have a 5 year old son who is tall but very small around the waist. When I buy adjustable wasit band pants they get really bunched up and seem to be uncomfortable and the elastic waist bands I have to roll. Does anyone have kids with similar problems and have luck with a certain brand or store? Thank you in advance for your help!!

What can I do next?

Hi M., I was really interested in reading these responses because I too have a tall/slim son. My poor 6-year-old; his pants either tend to be high-waters or they slide down his (nonexistent) hips/butt!

A friend recommended Walmart to me; they have Wrangler Slims and Faded Glory (both with an adjustable inside button), and they're not as expensive as some.

My daughter is tall and has a slender waist as well. In my experience, I've found that the pants that fit her the best are Tommy Hilfiger. Those pants seem to run skinnier so that adjustable waist bands aren't needed. Although, I don't think you can get them at stores. The few pants my daugther has had and fit her GREAT, were garage sale items and hand-me-downs. I did a quick search and you can get some styles on Amazon.com. I'd probaby buy one pair and see if you like them before investing in many. Average price is about 40. Some would think that's expensive, but the few pairs my daughter had wore great and kept their color and because they fit her so well, she wore them for way longer than other pants she's had. I would have paid full price for them had I known at the time that they would be my favorite pants on her. Good luck.

Yep, my oldest is tall and thin, and he's the same size from shoulder to ankle, so I can't keep pants on him either!

The Gymboree slims seem to fit him the best, and I did find him two pairs of Gap slims that have some elastic in the back and they fit good too. Otherwise we do tend to stick with the Levi's slims and cinch in the adjustable waist a bit.

Its hard though, he needs a 7/8 for length, but a 4 for waist!

I can feel your frustration M.. My son is 7 and can still wear a toddler size around the waist but he is very much the oppisite in height. I have had the best luck with Gap. I buy the slim fit adjustable waist. With the slim fit you don't have all of that extra material bunching up on him. They also have a really easy clip type button that is easy to use.

I'm not sure about the boys sections, but Gap Kids has a slim size for girls!

Oshkosh B'gosh has jeans and khaki's in slims, Regular, and Husky widths. They have the adjustable waistband also. So, maybe with the slim and adj. waist you can get some to fit (you probably wouldn't have to adjust them so much so it wouldn't be uncomfortable). There are OKB Outlet stores at Albertville, Medford, and North Branch (where I work:) The price is not unreasonable either. $12-$15 depending on how many you buy!

I have no idea but will you let me know? I have a five year old daughter and I have been using zip ties to keep her pants up because none of the belts fit her.

JcPenny's sells "slim" in the girls section might sell it in the boys as well.

Old Navy and Children's Place are great for skinny kids as well

Gymboree seems to either run real small or real big in my opinion. So they're a hit or miss with my daughter.

I have the same problem with my two sons ages 5 and 7. Sears has great jeans. They carry Tough Skins in slims. Their slims seem to be the best and the reinforced knees work great for boys. Good luck.

I have good luck at JCPenney....they have SLIMS. My son usually wears the Arizona jeans...in the slim fit.

My son is 6 years old- tall, & pretty slender. I cannot buy any pants without the adjustable waist band or they slide right off. I think I've tried every brand, store brand etc.. I can find. The best I have found were Levi's slim with the adjustable waist band. The Levi's adjustable waist band part doesn't get bunched up either like some other brands. Just make sure the button is in one of the holes when you wash them. And also gap has some ok pants, they seem to run a size larger though then the typical brands. Happy Shopping! Good Luck!

I have too small waisted butt-less boys :)
Levi's slims work the best for them- you can find them at Kohl's, Herbergers, etc..
Children's Place has slims too- and they work pretty well.
We've had the best luck with GAP jeans/pants.

If you are looking for good belts- www.myselfbelts.com is great- they are velcro so kids can do it themselves.

We have this issue in our house as well. The best I've found are the Arizona jeans in slim available at JCPenney. They are not too expensive either. Good luck!
